The tuner I was looking to use, sent me this email after I had asked about his experience tuning with water-methanol:
I've tuned many different cars with water injection. As for using it for
daily driving use I heavily suggest against it. You will run out, I don't
care if have a 5 gallon water tank.
Now, I know the water-meth combo will run out eventually and then you have to fill the tank. Not a big deal but to me the tuner seems like he is saying it runs out every 1/4 tank.
So... I emailed Snow Performance about what the tuner said and this is one of their responses:
90% of our systems are installed on daily drivers, and our parking lot is filled with vehicles that run the systems every single day. We have different levels of cars and power, etc. but there is absolutely, positively, no reason you should have to fill the reservoir every day unless you travel 300-500 miles a day (even then not likely).
On an NA engine, there isn’t as much heat and pressure so we don’t inject as much volume of fluid – so a given quantity will last much longer. Take, for example, our ’05 Mustang turbo. Makes about 450+whp through an automatic. The 7qt reservoir lasts between one and two tanks of gasoline, and unless you light up the tires at every single stoplight, you should have that same or better range from a 7qt. We have optional low-fluid lights, and our Safe Injection Safeguard system is about 3 weeks away from being re-released which would allow complete safety against running out or any other fluid delivery issue.
It almost sounds like your tuner has been installing the nozzles backwards which causes the fluid to come out in a stream, not a mist, and uses about 10 times as much fluid (therefore 10 times as fast).
So... after I read the above email, here is my response to them:
That is awesome to hear! My goal with my car is to try to make 360+ HP naturally aspirated. I have been told by another engine builder that on race gas they are able to make 380 to the wheels on combo similar to what I am going to run, except they don't use water-meth injection. I was looking into the water-meth injection simply for the ability of being able run pump gas. I know that I will still have the added benefit of increasing the timing. Which of your kits would be the best choice for my combo? Also, what else would you recommend I purchase along with the stage 2 MAF boost cooler? I know the 7qt reservoir.
Their reply:
Normally, we equal or better 116 octane power numbers, so you should be able to do the same. For your setup, I would recommend the #20011 Stage 2 MAF Boost Cooler that injects proportionally according to the airflow going into the engine. If you run the 7 qt in the trunk, I would recommend the #40060 Solenoid to prevent gravity flow if you ever parked nose down on a steep hill. Just to be safe.
That being said, do ya'll think I should try this guy out or go somewhere else? If I have to drive 3 or 4 hours with car on a trailer I will do it. I just HAVE to have the BEST tune possible for what I am wanting to do with my car.
