With a relatively stock set up you should look for a cam that will give you intake duration that is less than 220* in duration at .050". It won't do you much good to go with a high lift cam as your heads will strangle off any advantage from that.
With a stock set-up there is only so much you can do because if you are going to put in a cam that will get more air into the engine you have to have a way for that additional air to get in, then you need to get it away from the engine as well. The sound won't be much different either when you go conservative with stock exhaust. Headers will change the sound and help with performance as well as letting you get a more stout cam, but then you'll need to do something on the intake side too. For sound look at the popular "sound making" mufflers.
If a cool sounding, snappy performance car were as easy as just changing a cam everyone would have one.
