What is it? need help!

So this weekend my son and I replaced the heater core in our 95 GT vert. What a job. Anyways, when I finally got the dash out I found that there was an OLD aftermarket alarm system. It was not all hacked up so it was easy to take out and make all the wiring back to factory. However, there is a relay that is behind the kick panel on the drivers side. There was a white wire that was connected to the black wire coming from the relay. Should this black wire just be a ground and what is the relay for?

Sorry the images ard so big. I drove it to work today and did not notice any t hing not working, except it still runs hotter than i like it to.

Oh it was no big deal. At least we can see it now. I really just need to know what the relay is for and if the black wire needs grounded.

Bet its a relay for the starter kill on the alarm.

If its a automatic its probably the starter kill relay are even the door look relay or trunk relay. Unplug the relay and see if everything still works.

After looking at it again I believe that relay hooks on to the side of the fuse box. Its for the turn signals

Wires on 85 & 86 are the coil wires & go to a switched 12vdc source...this turns the coil on & turns it off. Wires on "30" & 87A are on a Normally Closed contact, and will be on when the relay is OFF. if you put the wire on 87A over to 87 it will be on a Nomally Open contact & will only turn on when the relay coil is turned on!

Note the wires on "30", 87 & 87A are all the 12 volt "hot" wire not the grounded wire! LOL...do not put both + & - 12 volts on those wires. I can't tell which is which without looking at the relay & testing with an Ohmmeter. I'd guess that Red is + to the Coil & Black is - to a ground. The Yellow & orange are most likely the contacts either NO or NC.

Get an ohmmeter & test the Red & Black & look for a small value in ohms which would be the coil, maybe 10- 100 ohms. The orange & yellow may have infinity resistance indicating an open contact....if they have 0 ohms they are the NC contact.

IF my guess about the colors is correct.


Also if the wires are different gauges the two smaller ones will be the coil & the two larger ones the contacts...

The yellow wire is spliced i nto the orange wire and the orange wire goes off into the wire harness.

Need an ohm meter to check those wires further...but my analysis still stands...gotta see which number each wire goes to to know more. Good luck my friend...I'm curious too!
