I have a 1994 Mustang GT. It seems my temperature control panel has died. To be clear I'm talking about the little panel with the AC/Heat controls. It has 3 knobs you can turn. I was wondering if anyone here knows if new units are being made... by some company somewhere. I could just buy an ebay unit of course, but who knows how long it will last. Then I'd be paying $100+ for a unit that could be just as old as the one I've got. And thus, just living on borrowed time before it too finally dies. Then I'd have wasted money and still have the same problem to deal with. And to top it all off, the used ones all seem to have the faded out red line for the heat indicator. I'd really like to get one that was still red.

So I'd really like to get my hands on some kind of new unit. I wouldn't even care if it came off of a different vehicle as long as it was black and it would fit and work. Thoughts? Ideas?

Those don’t typically go out. I have one I’ll send ya for $20 shipped. It even has LED bulbs in it.

Just a quick question...

Are they all backlit? Is every 94-04 car backlit? That is something I do need to know. I may be interested if it isn't faded.

As for what its doing, it seems that only the 1, and 4 position work on the fan speed knob. As for vent position controls, it will only switch to floor, or defroster.

Position 1-4 issue can be the resistor at the motor and the issue with it not changing vent positions is usually caused by a vacuum leak. The thin plastic line that goes thru the firewall to control the vents is notorious for cracking and failing.

Yeah I had intended to dig around in there and make sure it wasn't something to do with the vacuum or some other electrical problem. Even still, I'd really like to get my hands on one that wasn't faded out. I was told that the same unit was used on a lot of vehicles throughout the 90's. And that some dealerships that are not in the city, may even still have a NOS one. That's how common they were.
