who will win this race?

my buddy has a 94 z28 automatic and i waxed it at the track for him twice in a row. now he went out and bought a 05 gto with the good motor in it. his is completely stock and a automatic. my best run last time was a 14 @ 101 in my 95 gt on street tires, with a full beer cooler and lawn chairs in trunk. since then i have put on a c&l 76mm kit and bumped up the timing and added a fuel pressure regulator and upped the fuel psi a little.

i have a 5 speed and am getting ready to buy a set or drag radials for the gto rematch he wants.

do i have a chance? dont they run about 13.7 in the 1/4?

i do know he has about 3 runs in the camaro and none on the gto, so his track experiance is close to none.

i have about 50 runs in the 1/4 in my stang.

let me know what ya all think?

from a roll your dead.. dead stop if you launch better then him you might have a chance.

it is going to be at a dragstrip, no rolling, i dont street race.

he will be on stock tires and i will have drag radials.

with radials you may have a chance. since he just picked the car up he probably hasnt gotten the whole feel yet of it so yeah do it and let us know

i race a gto and put him to shame, granted i have H/C and gears full exhaust. but it wasn't all straight, through some tight turns and dipping, that 6 liter wasn't all that. when we got to the light at the end of the highway someone made an illegal uturn to get back on the highway, cause they didn't want any more. :knuppel2:

i agree everyone does not street race, i have not yet and i will not. when rice and whatever jumps my bumper i tell them lets take it to the track at the next red light, i am 36 years old and have not done it yet.

i dont put down street racing but it is not for me, i have a 6 year old son who rides with me all the time and i will not put his life in danger for a small thrill.

Slap on a set of Mickey Thompson DRs, bring them down to 14 - 16 lbs and heat them up. You have to find out what your car likes to launch at (rpms) vs. the tire pressure.

Remove as much weight as possible. Passenger seat, rear seat, spare tire/jack, amp/subs, garbage on the floor, etc.

If you have not yet, remove your front sway bar.

If you can, get your hands on a set of skinnies up front and/or two factory spare wheels/tires.

You must out reaction time your friend

I would put my money on you with the items performed above, an understanding of where your car launches the best (rpm/tire pressure) and good driving ability.

GTO if he knows how to drive it, I have seen new Mustang GT's beat them at the strip, but the goat spun LOTS. As for street racing, I have only done 1 dig from a red light on the street because the guy was hassling me BAD. Now I just ignore it. Some A-hole the night before my car was hit at my house with an old 88 stang gt with obvious upgrades kept tailing and burping his throttle at him, and I had my bud in the passenger seat. We both laughed at him because he was twice my age with an older, crappier car that was obviously faster

Bad part is, My mom doesn't want me to go to the dragstrip in the next town to race for fear my car might break, but I dont care. I told her would you rather have me racing on the strip or streets

. Answer was obvious, I get to go to the strip next year with my brother with my new gears(hopefully)
