but i ask cause a 315 on a 20 is fn huge! way too much tire for a 20" wheel on a 98!

I don't think you are fully understanding

315 has nothing at all to do with tire size, that is the tread width

A 315 wide tire on a 17" will be the same 315 wide on a 20", it's the sidewall that changes. If you use a correct ratio you can still end up with around a 26" overall diamter which will fit fine.

a 315 35 tire or a 315 40 tire wont matter! a 315 combined with a 20x10 is going to end up too big and look horrible, and the thread was about rolling fenders on a wide 20, thow some 315s on there and forget rolling the fender cause dropped on a 20" rim with 315s and your gonna buckle your fender!!

Tony, I am going to say this as nicely as I can, a 315 is a 315 is a 315. 315 is just a measure of the tread width.

If you went with a 315-35-20 or a 315-30-20 it is too big of a tire, as I mentioned you want as close to a 25.7" diameter tire (oem size), your 275-30-20 is a 26.5" diameter which is why it is too high, now if you could find a 275-25-20 it would only be a 25.4" diameter and you would not have an issue

So to sum it up, it is not just the width of the tire or the size of the rim, it's the ratio and diameter that really matters

joe please tell me that you dont really think a 315/35/17 and a 315/35/20 are the same height.....dude i have no issues. the op wants to lower his car on 20s bro! what are you saying, im confused? you originally said he could go with a 315, i said 315 on a 20 you said it doesnt matter if its a twenty its the overall diameter. which i know this, a 315/25 is prolly gonna be close to what i have now but is going to be extremely wide and would be more likely to rub! lets just agree to disagree, lol!

I just put on 315-35-17 nitto 555's and I'm going to have to roll mine. They only rub when I enter a parking lot that has a raised entrance, and I enter on an angle.

Da Faq?! 315 should not require any rolling with a 17" wheel. Id say flipping or getting rid of quad shock but no rolling needed unless you have spacers on top of that. I've had 315s on both mustangs and have never seen that. That's with various 315 tires. right now the nitto 555R (poor excuse for a 315, really 295) don't rub anything.

no shat. for realz. I gots no spacers either. My wheels are 10.5" dd bullits. Like I said, it's only when I turn into a drive and I go into it diagonally. You might call it twisting the suspension.

anyway sam if u run a wide twenty in the rear and lower it enough to close the wheel gap you will def need to roll the fenders. if you do a 20 and go with a 315 tire lowered then get an unlimited lifetime subscription to tire rack!

Yes for realz. Now you know. lol Well your suspension sucks monkey butt bc I have the same exact gas wheels and never had an issue. Some definite chassis bind up in there.

Its all about backspacing.. I have seen 335's fit under these cars without any issues.. I ran 19" wheels with 295/30 tires then switched to 305/30 and didnt need to roll the fender. All because of the backspacing i ordered on the wheels. And yes u need as short of a tire as possible each time u go up in wheel diameter.. But does make for a rougher ride.

see heres the thing...i think if you go with a 20" wheel on a 94-98 you have got to drop it pretty low to get rid of the wagon wheel look....here is my car with 20x 8.5s all four before and after 2.25" drop!

good clear shot of the wheel gap and shows how it helps the 20 not look so huge!!
