Nitto NT555 is your best bet. It's an affordable tire that is quiet, wears smooth, looks awesome, and gets good mileage.

If you measured 9 inches lip to lip you have an 8 inch rim. This is why I never tell people to measure as no one knows how to measure.

Glance method ftw.

Yup. 275's still fit a 8 inch wheel nicely.

^yep. You need to measure it with no tire, and go from inside edge to edge. It's safe to assume the lip is about 1/2", therefore you take 1" off your outside measurement.

Well I didn't know for sure. But I understand what ya mean. Great input everybody! I still think the 275 will look good on an 8inch rim.

yeah and like said tires like Nitto run narrow. When I had Dunlop 255/45 and Nitto 275/40 on my Cobra wheels they looked pretty much the same width, but the center of the Nittos did wear out faster than the outside because regardless of how they look they are a little wide for the wheel.

I'm shopping tires now, I am running a 17x8 wheel. I'm just looking for a cheap tire since the car only goes out on nice days never sees track time and frankily i roast the tires too often to justify buying expensive tires...that being said I'm looking at 245/45/17 for the front and 275/40/17 for the rear, should i change the front to a 255/47/17? I'm looking at the Federal SS-596, it seems like staggered is the way to go, i run 245/45/17's on there now, granted they are shitty and beat up from old suspension, they just feel like they'll get squirrely too easily.

i prefer the looks of a 255 tire over a 245. Cobras came stock with a 255 tire. what ever you can afford. but definately not any smaller than a 245.

cool, i'll def go with the 255. from what i've read it's kind of split down the middle 275/40/17 on a 17x8 wheel. I like the wider look but dont want to risk safety

You're driving a mustang that's build on a unibody frame and you're worried about safety? Lol
Go with 275's I have cheap Nexen tires and I have no issues, hell I drove through Ice covered roads and never had an issue.

right jones..cuz anything with a unibody will simply explode into a couple million pieces if taken over the breath taking speed of 5mph

if you're going with a 275/40 in the rear i'd suggest a 245/45 in the front since they are the same overall diameter. if you want something slightly shorter/wider in the front do a 255/40.
