That's how it comes, there's a flat spot through there. tight clearance there.

The cheapest I can find it online is $121+ shipping. I'll sell for $100 shipped - unless you can find a cheaper one somewhere...

Damn that looks all nice and purty. I will see what kinda $$$ i can scrounge up over the next week or so. Thanks for looking for me.

Well I got that shaft installed last week, AND drove it on the motorsports track 2 days later.
I gotta say, I wasn't expecting much of a different feel. but I'd like to report that it feels MUCH better. smoother and easily movable. it really feels much nicer than the stock setup!

2 bolts and a pry bar took care of the install, I just had to mess with it some to make it fit my "stock" engine compartment.
I ended up shimming the motor 3/16" and polished the corners off the new steering shaft for good measure.
If it wasn't for that, you could install one of these in about 10 minutes.

Here's some pics.

Jeff, is the MM steering shaft an upgrade you would do just for the hell of it?

i dont have any problems with my stock steering shaft (knock on wood) but I have very little clearance between the shaft and my longtubes as well. I had to heat up my headers and give them a couple good bangs with a hammer to make some clearance between the two.

before driving it I would have said no, but after feeling it up! I'd say yes.
it really feels much nicer, smoother, and easier to make fine adjustments to the wheel.

I know a lot of the 03 guys do this just because it feels better to drive it.

I was on the MM web site and they have two parts listed (MMST-14 and 15). I need to replace mine as well and was wondering which I need for my '96 GT? One is listed as Manual and the other for Power Steering.

If you have manual rack, you pick one for manual. If you have power assisted steering like most of the mustangs out there, you pick power.

Most were not. Most of the time if there is a manual rack on a modern mustang, it's aftermarket.

It could also be one of your suspension components like your balljoints or tierods. The MM shaft will take the slight play out, but it won't fix it completely if you have a problem somewhere else other than the shaft.
