1997 GT AT Overdrive problems

So i have a 1997 Mustang GT. I didnt know this but when a potential buyer for it came to my home he spoke about how the Overdrive gear wasnt kicking in. The car doesent have a button for it anywhere so I assumed my car didnt have it. Does my car have Overdrive if so why does it not work. Is it expensive to repair?

Does your car have the stock shifter in it? There should be an overdrive button and light by the shifter.

No there isnt an over drive button

evry automatic i have seen they have a button under the selector release button
and it should show on the dash cluster 96 98

bet its possible that some one put a 94 95 original shifter in that car

Yes it should have a button on the shifter handle. If it's an aftermarket shifter a past owner may of failed to make a momentary switch to engage or disengage the OD

Even if it doesn’t have an od button it should still drive normally, that is as long as it has the stock valve body and tune.

I would find the wires and install the button somewhere
If I remember correctly 94 95 have them on the shifter selector panel where the PRND321 is

It depends on what’s going on. If it’s actually not going into overdrive I’d put money on the mlps not working right. I wonder if the previous owner removed the button and wired to so it’s off whenever the car is on because there was some sort of issue going on.

the switch does nothing more than connect two wires. It should be easy enough to test even with out a switch just jump the terminals.
