IS a 1998 mustang a specific year only gas tank? I need to change mine due to rust, however when I search for them they are usually listed as 86-97, and then 1999-04...

    Thanks in advance

The 98 is not baffled. Uses a basket and a two speed pump..
The 98 is some what limited on fuel pump choices

Yes but it's not a straight swap. You can 99 newer but I'm not exactly sure how that goes. For 97 down you will need a gas tank filter neck and hardware. Swap the connectors. .. fuel lines going to fuel filter to gas tank. . Easiest would be to go to the junk yard. Get all the stuff. As far as I know 94-97 v6-v8 is the same. .

So could I use one from a different year? I.e. pull one from a 2000 and use that or a 1997?

Yes to can use one from a different year. If you do 99+ you have to get a different hat for the tank. . One for a return style tank. .

Ive also heard if you go the 97 down way you have to do something about the 2 speeds for the pump and set it on one. Im not there yet so ill have to find out as I go..

What about just using the pump assembly and hat on a different tank? It's just DD V6 convertible. I will not be upgrading it performance wise just the appearance side so I'm not worried about that side of the things. I just don't want to have a hole in my gas tank...!
