first is in the tranny...i think. it only happens when im turning into a drive way. im thinking it has something to do with the angle and slope cause i can turn and drive in circles left and right with no noise. as soon as i turn into a driveway(or sometimes parking spot) i hear a tak tak tak noise and it sounds like its in the tranny or near it.

second problem is in my diff. how common is it for the rearend to come "loose"? mine seems to be making a clunking noise at take off. i checked the fluid level and its good. while i was checking the fluid i moved the tires back and fourth and noticed the noise. whats the torque spec for the rearend?

first off, change the transmission fluid if you haven't already sounds like it's low or bad.

you say as you move the wheels you get a clunk sound. Is this rotating the wheels forward and backwards? if so you've got axle or gear/diff issues. I doubt the rear end is loose.

Could be the front u-joint, u-joints in the mustangs suck balls.

Clunking noise is probably the spider gears are loose or excessive lash. Do you have a whining noise with the clunk??

i havent really noticed a whining noise but ill pay closer attention tomorrow.
so if the spider gears are loose can they simply be tightened?

ck the u-joints first before the rearend.
there cheaper/easier to replace, and they go bad more frequently that the rear end.
Unless you've spent a lot of time at the track.

Re: 2 drivetrain problems guys

i checked the u joints and the tailshaft bushing. no play what so ever in my drive shaft.

on a side note, i noticed my oil cooler lines were pretty worn so i yank them off and figure ill just order new ones. problem is the parts suppliers all say dealer item only, the dealer tell me they no longer make them at all. luckly i have buddy at a parts house who i took the hoses too and we matched them up as close as possible with other preformed hoses. fucking ford man lol

Not to be an a-hole man but I don't think you could be any more vague with your descriptions. There is no "tq spec for the rearend." What PART of the rear end? Pinion flange? ring gear? carrier bearing cap? see what I mean. Tell us exactly what you're doing when the noise happen.

Aside from a broken motor or tranny mount, there is NOTHING that is going to cause a "clicking" noise in a manual tranny that ONLY occurs when the car is put at an angle.

As for the rear end, there will always be some backlash....if may look excessive to the naked eye on just the drive shaft but its probably within spec. Check the control arms. Put the car in gear with the ebrake off.....have someone rock the car back and forth and WACTCH the pinion snout for excessive up and down movement or loose bolts on the control arms. Also when does the "clunk" occur? When you start to release the clutch? Or is it when you actually SLIP the shifter into first gear? If its when you slip it it, you porbably need to look into a clutch adjustment....I.e. its not disengaging completely and when you put it in gear, it shocks the driveshaft for a second. THAT is your most likely scenario...

Could be something as simple as a loose, wornout or GONE control arm bushing.

Ball joints for front?

Re: 2 drivetrain problems guys

ok i was just going through old paper work on my car and found the papers from my eibach pro kit. it came with and extra rubber piece they are calling a pinion snubber? i didnt install this. it says on the paper it goes over the drive shaft in the third member. could not installing this cause the drive shaft to hit when the car in on an angle?
*a side note* ive noticed the noise only happens when the sterring wheel is turned.

pinion snubber has nothign to do with the vibe. Any car that rides on the snubber is sitting too low or the angle is wrong on the pinion.
