Hello everyone,

I recently bought a 1995 Mustang 5.0 Automatic.

The problem is that when I try to start the car, nothing happens. The instrument cluster doesn't light up, and the engine doesn't even try to start.

We've checked the fuses, and they're all good. We've also replaced the ignition switch, but it's still the same.

I should also mention that all the electrical components work, like the windows, AC, and lights.

Since I'm in Spain, there isn't much information available about these models because they weren't officially sold here.

Thanks

that is strange. I was going to say to check voltage at the starter to start simple but it sounds like there is a bigger problem. I think I would look under the dash and in the steering column to see if any wiring looked disconnected.

Also when you say you checked fuses, did you only check the ones you thought were related according to the manual or did you litterally check every fuse under the hood and dash?

Would be a real good investment to get one of these

That one in particular is on ebay as of writing this for $25 + shipping, no idea if they'd ship it to Spain but I don't see why not.

I thought someone just recently posted a link to an online version of the oem manuals? If you do not have one the ford factory sets that the dealers used have everything you should need to know in them from diagrams to harness shapes.

We checked all the fuses, both under the steering column and in the engine compartment. Also, when I turn the ignition on, I hear a click coming from the front passenger side, right where the headlight is. We removed the steering column to check the ignition switch, and I even replaced the ignition switch in case that was the problem.

I can see that the dashboard is getting power, but it's not lighting up.I bought the same manual you mentioned and gave it to the mechanic.

Next week he'll look at it more closely to see if we can find out anything else.European Fords are quite different, even though I work at the official Ford dealership here in Spain.

Thanks!

For a 95 I don't think the two problems are related.

An instrument cluster not lighting up seems like a PCB problem or the IC harness.

Do you hear the starter solenoid clicking or its bendix trying to engage? Is this maybe the clicking you hear by the passenger headlamp?
