I am replacing the OE A/C compressor on my wifes 3.8L V6, Ive come across a warning in the shop manual that states that when replacing the compressor the parallel flow condensor cannot be flushed and should be replaced when replacing the compressor to prevent contamination and premature failure of the new compressor. How can I determine if the condensor is parallel flow and bonus question: should I also replace the dryer?

Edit: it appears its recommended to replace the dryer.

I believe they’re parallel flow from the factory. Generally, most Ford models switched to parallel flow condensers when they switched to r134a. Replace the condenser, drier and oriface tube at the same time.

Interesting, I never saw that warning & flushed my wife's 02 V6 with an aerosol foam kit. only replaced the compressor and drier and pressure switch. That was around 9 years ago, haven't touched it since then and it still cools as new. I'm not suggesting you ignore the instructions, I must have lucked out.

Long story short, yes it's strongly recommended you replace the condenser when a compressor fails, 8/10 times it catches debris that the flush won't get out.

There's a good chance the new compressor will fail otherwise, inside of 6 months in my experience.
