I have 2003 Explorer 4.0 V-6 93k on the clock.
The original issue was my wife was going to work. The service engine soon light came on and she lost powe. The original engine code when I got to her location was a PO430 catalyst system below threshold bank b. At this point the truck ran fine just no power. Found that the catalytic converter was shot. replaced the Y pipe all 3 cats. Statred it up and now I have a engine miss with 3 engine codes.
The original code was still active PO430. The new codes were PO300 Random multiple misfire detection and PO316 Misfire occured in the first 1000 revolutions.
So I pulled the plugs and the left bank cylinders 4,5, and 6 were shot the electrodes were burnt and the gap was .075-.080 on all 3. The right bank cylinders 1,2, and 3 gap was good but electrodes were showing signs of wear.
Replaced the o2 sensor on the right side and the PO430 code went away.
Gapped the spark plugs to .052 replaced plugs and wires, used dielectric grease and never seize. I still have the engine miss but it is not showing any engine codes at this time.
I have good spark, and good compression in all cylinders between 180 and 185. My thoughts are a fuel problem. Opinions/Thoughts?? I'm goint to take it out for a ride and see, it only has a miss 2000 RPMs.
