so the reason for that seal is so dirt or moisture dose not get in
and from what i see 4x4 is the only aplication with it installed
makes are bronco F150 250 350 with tfi on distributor
i have not ran into that seal myself and i have many ford distibutors laying around

I figured you were supposed to grease the shaft and use that seal to keep said grease inside.

if you get a chance take it apart there is no bearings
all it is is a shaft no bearings, the gear keeps the shaft in place and aligned
at the top its smooth surface on distributer body and smooth surface on shaft snug fit to keep it aligned
pick up plate covers that then the rotor
there is not much to them

the Mallery that i have is way better, that is an old distributor with way better tech

I took it apart and put it back together already, appears there is a bronze bushing, my shaft (lol) had some wear so I wet sanded 800-1500-2000 to smooth it up. Put in a new PIP and shined the housing a little with sandpaper, cleaned the reluctor wheel a little as rust was forming, and put it all together.

Just came back to say, the new PIP sensor fixed my cutting out at 5K problem, and after driving, I’ve been popping off the distributor cap to check if any oil got in the housing because I didn’t put that seal on (the one I couldn’t find). I am happy to report that only after the first drive was there some oil (probably the oil I lined the shaft with when assembling the distributor), thanks again guys!
