I bought my 2004 from a larger dealership few weeks ago. seems to run great. tires like new and has 70k miles. older cars always kind of scare me to travel hundreds of miles. How safe is this or say reliable being 22 years old? As long as everything is working good and serpentine belt looks good am i ok for 300 to 400 miles in upcoming few weeks?

Just go out cruising in it up and down local highways for an hour or so one evening to build your confidence. The modular 4.6 engines are very reliable. Check your vacuum lines, belt, check the pulleys all spi. Freely, Fuel filter. Coolant sytem Etc. And if everything is A okay. Give it a go.

I have over 300,000 on my '94 Mustang. A year back I drove it from San Diego, CA to Las Vegas in June That's some 350 miles. Talk about heat! (The weather, not the engine). The engine has been rebuilt. I took it easy going over the "Cajon Pass", a steep grade. Because of the hot weather (112) while I was in Vegas, I did not drive it. And I did drive back to San Diego in the middle of the night because even then it was in the 90s! Would I do that again?... not in the summer.

My GT has 70K. I'd fire it up and drive 400 miles if i had to.

Check your balljoints. That's one area of these cars that needs to be paid attention to. After 25 years or so i see a lot of BJ failures on the FB groups. Check to see if your have dry rotted/cracked boots.
