I'm toying with the idea of getting something to replace the Lincoln. She's old, tired and ready to live another life. I drove a 2012 GT 6spd last Saturday and really did like it. It drove nice, handled well and all around was very pleasant. The ONE thing that bothers me is the transmission situation. I vaguely remember reading about how the 6spd trans are not so good and they are having issues so instead of Ford fixing it they are just giving out additives?! Need to research that more.... I've come to realize that the 6spd's are made in Chinese land which I'm NOT thrilled about at all and the automatics for the GT's are made in Mexico (doesn't make me happy either). Aside from all that the auto's for the 6cyl cars are U.S. made..... With all that being said my other option was an '04 Cobra. I found one close that meets my exact requirements for a used car (i.e. color, body style, virgin car with no mods and extremely low mileage). The drawback there is I'd be basically buying a car I already have. I think my next move is to go drive the Cobra because I've only driven one once back in 2003 when they first came out so my memory lacks a little.

Im pretty sure the 6spd is made by Getrag, and thats who makes Dodge's transmissions... so that ought to tell you something right there.

and bmw's, and several other automakers.

personally, the s197 platform is a far superior car. The cobra's IRS is nice, the drivetrain is nice, but the rest of the car is a huge weak point, especially since you already have an sn95.

who cares about reports of problems other people have online, that's what the warranty is for and not every car has the same issues.

I love our cars but Blind pretty well nailed it.

Your going from a lincoln which is I assume your daily. I don't think I could daily a terminator, and the 2012 is a comfortable, very ample ride.

And just like he said, there's a warranty on new cars for a reason. Kinks that need working out here and there.

I vote for the 2012 6er.300hp, 30+mpg's, and come stock with duel exhaust already. which is way more than our gt's were in stock form.Just remove the 6er rocker stripe then add your wheels and tires of choice. and DD it.

I've test driven a 2012 GT with brembo package. I was massively impressed. The has a LOT of grip, front and back (I have a full MM package on my car). Motor is a gem. Smooth as silk, quiet, powerful, gets excellent gas mileage, and power curve so flat, you can barely feel the acceleration (speedo will tell a different story of course). Chassis is very well sorted, stiff, quiet, well configured. One thing that was I really impressed with was how quiet the cabin is. 70mhp on the hwy, and I can carry on a conversation with a whisper. Part of that is because in S197 the mufflers have been moved behind the rear axle, eliminating droning that's associated with SN95 mustangs.

Downsides... don't get base interior. No point to go cheap on a car like that, and base interior is really sub par. If you are spending 32k for a car, might as well spend another 2 for leather and premium package. Shifter is kinda vague. Partially it is because of the way Getrag positions their shifter gate (side to side too close for comfort), and partially it is because the bushing in the shifter is so spongy. I'm sure an MGW shifter or something similar will fix that spongy feeling.

Also, there is talk going around that the Getrag transmissions are unreliable and have issues when trying to get into gears. My honest opinion that it is not a Ford issue. There is nothing wrong with that transmission. The car comes with skip shift, which blocks you from going into certain gears to increase gas mileage. Now people are trying some bootleg ways to disable that, by thinking that if you just pull a relay or whatever it was, that skipshift will be automatically disabled, and everything will be fine. I'm convinced that it's not that easy. This is why people are getting that issue where skipshift is not really disabled, and they try to force gears to engage against their will, and grind them down. Don't disable skip shift, or wait for someone to find a proper way to do it, and transmission will be just fine.

It's the old trick they've been using in Vettes and Camaros ever since 90s to increase the gas mileage and avoid having the customer pay the gas guzzler tax.

I'm afraid I wouldn't drive my car if i got something newer and nicer of the same sort of thing. When I pick out a daily driver I try to get something more or less opposite of my Mustang so that each car fits a niche.

If I were to get the new mustang, old one would either get parted out, or sold. No sense in keeping another car, when the new one does everything better. What I'm likely to do though will probably be picking up 2008 Acura TSX for the daily. Really nice inside and out, gets excellent gas mileage, quiet and reliable.

I think it's a no brainer getting the '12 GT. That's an incredible opportunity if you can do it. several options out there for you too- The RTR, BOSS, GT Premium. I would think that someone knowledgeable at Ford can search the country for a very special car that may have a couple thousand miles on it and get a chunk of cash knocked off the price. I don't know if that is possible because of demand right now but I know there are alot of options in making one for yourself. Any issue mentioned before the warranty expires gets an extended coverage period if the dealership acts as good business people. I really wish you luck and I'm gonna congratulate you now, that's awesome news. Good luck!

if you put the same boost on a condor and a coyote the coyote in the GT makes more power.

that said i got a '89 fox coupe with a build 302 with under 4k on the motor for less than 5k recently. not new car but it'll be yeeeaaars before i spend the money on gas to have went out and bought a new car. i am superbly pleased with it a month or two down the road.

for 32k you could have damn near anything under the sun, personally i would go get a gt500 and just try my hardest to stay out of the gears when i was worried about fuel. it'll be an investment, where as we all know how many GT's are on the road. . . .

I've driven the car and... no, I wouldn't. Not even slightly. 2012 does everything my car can better stock (maybe not handling quite the same, nothing a Eibach RII can't fix). Moneywise, if I could, I would.

Even though I looked at S197 GTs, a Cobra(sadly got sold 2 days before I got my loan approved) and my Mach 1. For what I do, I chose the 4v mach 1 for drag racing purposes, imo, the engine has more potential than a 3v and it has the SRA which the cobra lacked. IF I could have afforded it (I was $100/mth away from it) I would have gotten a new 5.0L, but I like to mod my cars, and boom goes warranty and I wouldn't be able to mod it due to the large payment. For a daily driver, I'd MUCH rather have a 2011+ 5.0L over a termy anyday. I love them, but those new cars are great, drive soooo nice, and have plenty of power. Again, I could have bought our last 2010 GT at work at a STEAL of a price, but again, there's that car payment. I'm also 19, which makes a difference. IMO, go with the newer one, If I buy another stang, it's either going to be a 69-73 or a S197.
