I used to never think I would want or like 4.10s but now that I have them Id never get rid of them. Mines a street/strip car and its not even close to a daily driver. Only time I take it on the interstate is to go to the track so it kinda sucks then but I live w/ it. As far as swapping yours out its not worth it for the price just for that one long trip you have. A gear change should not cost more then $300 regardless

using $3.50 per gallon for an easy to figure average fuel cost and 4.10/373=1.099 means around an 10% fuel difference. not sure of your mpg so i will just use 15 as a guess for current. switching to 3.73s would move you to 16.5 mpg.
300 mile trip with 4.10s=20 gallons=$70
300 mile trip with 3.73s=18.19 gallons=$63.64 that is $6.36 for every 300 miles. to save $500 to pay for the gear change will take 78 trips of 300 miles or 23584 miles.

gear swap for mpg seems a mute point to me. granted that gear ratio change will change driving habits affecting mpg also but could take mpg to worse also. i have seen some get better mpg with the steeper gear because of driving habit changes and other factors of powerband manipulation.

now, to keep in powerband and cross finish line at certain rpm and gear makes all the sense in the world to me. :laughing4:

Thats crap. Changing the gear is just fine. You only need the whole kit if you re rebuilding the rear end. They are just trying to screw you w/ no lube

Yeah they are. Total if you were to do everything. New gear/ Trac lok rebuild and whole install kit. It should cost you about $700 total and that is including Carbon Clutch's New ring and pinion, Syn fluid and fric modifier, and new install kit. For the price your local shops charge you it isn't worth it!

I spent right around 300 for the parts to completly rebuild the rear end.
Motorsport 4.10. 150
Bearing kit, frictions, Lube~150

Did the install myself. Had 2.73 auto 5.0

HOLY HELL what a difference it makes. Never go back. Never

And gas mileage is actually about the same. Lots of city driving here.

I had my friends shop do my 3.73's when I had them and 31 spline limited slip differential and it cost me about $330 I think. I got a little bit of a price cut but not a huge amount
