I asked this question in another thread already but havent recieved a response. I recently came across some brand new ford racing 4:30 gears for 100 bux so I bought them. Maybe a lil low but I operate on a small budget so I gotta take a good deal when I come across it. Anyway I cant seem to find a speedcal for my car. My new AODE w/stall and shift kit should be here next week and I want to get those gears in soon after.

Will it be ok to drive my car without a speedcal or is it possible this could mess up my new trans? I want to get a speedcal but I'm having trouble finding one for my car. (94 gt/aode) I know dallas mustang sells em but cant seem to find one for my car. Plus it may be another week or two after I get the gears in before I have the money to pick one up. Any help would be appreciated.

thank you

Our cars dont use speed cals. Just get a new speedo gear cost like 15 bucks. or just do the mph in your head. My speedo is like 10-15 off.

A speedo gear won't come close to the correct speed with 4:30 gears. And the last time I checked Dallas Mustang does have the speedo recalibrator. It should be able to handle all gear and tire size options.

Do a 23 tooth and the speedometer will be off by about 5 mph.

What setup did you end up going with?

Yeah I've heard the most the speedo gears can compensate for in our cars is 3.73. Better look into a tune or speedcal!

havent gone with anything yet. Right now im still waiting on my trans and then once I get that put in if everything goes well a couple weeks and Ill get the gears put in. I think ill just call dallas mustang and see if they can hook me up with a speedcal but that will probably come after I get the gears put in.

I dont think it will be too low but for the record ill post up as soon as I get this done and let u know if first is useless. Its definitely going to be a big jump. 2.73-4.30 lol

the closest speedo gear you will fine is 3.55:1s

your speedo will be off roughly 15% ish. which is 15 MPH @ 100 MPH (your speedo will read 115 @ 100MPH)

i suggest living with it :) thats what im doing.

im considering it. My main concern was potentially ruining my new transmission, but most people seem to agree it wont hurt it. It would be nice to have the speedometer correct but I dont need the speedometer to tell me I'm going way too fast.

youll get used to it, trust me... what sucks is getting into a normal car where the speedo works and you speed like a mad man. LOL!

your tranny will be fine. with 4.30s you will (obviously) be putting more wear and tear on it, but it will be fine as long as your driving habbits are "normal" lol.

when you first install them, and after break in (600 miles or so,) try starting from a stop in 2nd gear... thats what i do alot with 4.10s now.

np.

your other option is to find a jeep speedo gear. they fit into the T45, so i think they will fit into a T5.

They are a 23 tooth (or something like that) they are the closest thing you will find. thats the largest they make. they are ALMOST perfect for 4.10s, but it will still be off for 4.30s.

I read somewhere that Ford covered speedo gears up to the 3.73 ratio. Is that correct?
