so 4.6 or 5.0

which is overall better?

which responds better to modifications.

This is a matter of personal opinion. The 5.0 is way cheaper to build, but the 4.6 has way more potential, especially the 4v.

I wouldn't say one is "better" than the other...

I simply prefer the simplicity and abundance of aftermarket motor parts that the 5.0 offers. Cheaper parts is an added plus.

4.6 anyday... takes more money to build

but i think they are better engines...

the 4-valve will demolish a 5.0

they might arguably bolt-on better, but i have yet to see an engine take to boost like a modular.

i dunno i love both but id go with the 5.0. the boss block that frpp released makes for an evil stroker that imo is cheaper and easier to attain killer hp. the mods come a long way since their debut back in 92, but if u were not fiancially able the 5.0 is ur better bet. not downing the 4.6-i own one- hopefully the aftermarket scene for the 4.6 would be more buyer friendly like the 5.0.

This thread is going nowhere.

However, as much as the modular fanboys hate to admit it - the 5.0 is better!! Cheaper, more available parts, easier to work on, and doesn't have crappy engine architecture! Yay!

j/k each engine has its ups and downs, putting money aside, a 4.6DOHC>5.0

I have to say 4.6 cause I own one but 5.0 is alot cheaper to build, the chevy 350 is like a ford 5.0 both very cheap to build up, and reliable

you will save big bux going with a 5.0.. and like Paul said the aftermarket is huge for 5.0's.. 4.6 doesnt have a small aftermarket but the 5.0's is big.

i would personally rather have a 4.6DOHC than a 5.0 anyday.. not just because i own one but, idk its just what i would prefer. 5.0's are cheap and good engines though. i would say a DOHC motor would respond to mods better however.

they both have their pro's and cons.
bolt on's, the 5L is less money to build.

over 500HP, you have to buy an expensive forged block for the 5.0, where the 4.6 block holds up to 1000HP.

Really depends on your plans and budget.

Since most people don't make over 500 hp, the strength of the block becomes less critical.

Moreover, I submit that it is STILL cheaper to build a 1000 hp pushrod motor than an equivalently-powered modular motor, even if you have to buy a $2000 engine block.

^ yeah, ya can buy an 5.0 aftermarket block, build the f*k out of it and still only pay half the price of what a 4.6 would take to half the power, sure the 4.6 block may be able to handle alot more power but to do that you still have to buy all the forged internal for ir to even make that power safely, so all in all i would rather buy an aftermarket 5.0 block and build it and have more power for half the price, but in reality if i was going to buy an aftermarket block i would the 351 block and make that thing a f*in beast
