Since most people don't make over 500 hp, the strength of the block becomes less critical.

Moreover, I submit that it is STILL cheaper to build a 1000 hp pushrod motor than an equivalently-powered modular motor, even if you have to buy a $2000 engine block.

Paul.

Exactly... that is the reason I prefer pushrod motors.
Everyone always seems to make the 500 hp argument the cornerstone, because they are so used to seeing all the 03/04 Cobra guys go 500+ and beyond.
But in reality most people STILL wont go over the 500 mark even as easy as it is to get there nowadays. So to me thats a moot point anymore.
Give me a Dart based stroker and blower and I'll have all the motor I'd need to knock out most any modular motor I'd run into on the street. For about the same money as a modular KB setup with cams....

you will save big bux going with a 5.0.. and like Paul said the aftermarket is huge for 5.0's.. 4.6 doesnt have a small aftermarket but the 5.0's is big.

i would personally rather have a 4.6DOHC than a 5.0 anyday.. not just because i own one but, idk its just what i would prefer. 5.0's are cheap and good engines though. i would say a DOHC motor would respond to mods better however.

I think the smaller modular aftermarket is mainly because Ford gave them such good stuff to work with in the first place and there simply is not a lot left on the table with the factory parts. For example look at the ports on the heads of a mod motor.... The modulars were designed with high performance, high RPM use in mind from day one, the 5.0 was a small truck motor with a low operating range. And with that there were a lot of concessions that had to be made to make it work well in a passenger car application.

I saw that thing once. It's 1100 cubic inches or something. Neato. :)
