So I was trying to hook up my mechanical oil pressure gauge I got from Paul, and the two coolant pipes are in the way of getting to the oil pressure sending unit.

Has anyone installed a mechanical oil pressure gauge on a 5.0 Cobra? What do I need to do to get to the sending unit and put the copper line on it?

Do you have a picture of the whole oil cooler setup and whatnot? I can probably think of a creative way to get it tapped in. Where does the OEM oil pressure switch attach on your motor?

Okie dokie. If nothing else, you should be able to install it wherever the OEM oil pressure switch is.

Don't mind the rust on the tubes lol. I plan on taking them out and getting them powder coated... but they're a PAIN IN THE ASS to get them off because they have never been removed I dont think.

I think this is the oil pressure sending unit. Hard to tell

Let me clarify, the OEM pressure switch and oil pressure are the same thing. If you can remove it, you should be able to install your brass fitting for the autometer gauge in it's place. the fit is pretty tight, so I wouldn't be surprised if you need to remove some stuff to get at it. I ended up moving stuff out of the way when I did my install, but I also decided to put in a tee that allowed me to keep the factory gauge working, as well as my autometer gauge.

I guess I'm going to have to try to force those two pipes off the hoses and pull it out of there and I should have SOME more room.

What all did you have to take off during your install Paul?

I think I just unhooked the engine ground that sits right there, and removed the oil filter. It's tight, but eventually you can get it.

it's very easy, after you remove the oil cooler lines you'll end up with two open coolant ends (i think from the water pump to the heater core line). I just went to advance and told them i needed a coolant hose for a GT and ta dah! Then you can run the larger GT oil filter too without any trouble.

Can you post up some pics so I can see? Did you remove the oil cooler too? I kinda get what you're saying but not 100%

he basically just removed the whole housing and then swapped to gt radiator hoses and now uses a gt filter instead

the oil cooler and the hardlines that run down to it were removed, hopefully this can show you what you'll be looking at.

first pic shows the oil cooler lines installed and connected.

now notice once its removed you're left with the two open coolant ends, one on the heater core line and the other on the water pump. basically you're just bypassing the whole coolant lines running down to the oil cooler and back up.

The hose is NOT connected yet in that pic, but you can see two open ends, one on the water pump and the other one is almost straight up on the heater core coolant line. That's where you need to run the hose, if you want me to go take a pic for you of the hose let me know. Hope this helps.

Yea, could you take a pic of the hose? What did you do to the other end of the oil coller lines?

there are no other ends of the oil cooler lines, they all come out. All you're doing is using 1 hose to bypass the whole oil cooler setup.
