well I want a manual too but Id just go with the 5spd cause a 6spd would be almost a waste unless you did a lot of high way traveling

get a 5-speed.

a T-56 is such a hassle to swap into a 3.8 and it will make it feel, and actually will be, slower.

it will end up costing more than you most likely pay for the car.

the V6 T-5 gear ratios are:
1st: 3.35
2nd: 1.93
3rd: 1.29
4th: 1.00
5th: 0.73

and the Cobra t-56 to compare:

1st: 2.66
2nd: 1.78
3rd: 1.30
4th: 1.00
5th: .80
6th: .63

as you can see, the 6 speed has higher ratios for all 6 gears (other than 3rd and 4th, which are equal), and looking at the overdrive gear, .73 compared to .63, you will only gain slightly more MPG on the highway. but that's after wasting gas having to accelerate harder to get onto said highway

I just did a 5-speed swap into my auto V6 Mustang a few months ago. I have to say it's pretty much PERFECT where it is right now. All five gears are pretty much perfectly spaced to make it a very useable daily driver, AND it has a lot more "perkyness" to it for playing around with.

I've driven a 6-speed equipped V8 Mustang, and even with the extra power, I did think that the gearing just felt ... wrong? It didn't have the same responsiveness as the T-5 or even the T-45. The gears also seemed to not be spaced evenly, making it a little more awkward to try and find the proper shift-points for it.

I had debated on putting the 4.6 DOHC out of my Mark VIII in my Mustang and finding a 6-speed for it, but honestly I like the way the 5 feels better, AND they're cheaper. IMHO, a 6-speed would be a huge waste of both time and money for you to stick behind a V6. That's just my $.02 though.

dude... i will be doing a t56 into my v6 car, and from what ill have heard.. its not hard, and its way better then the t5 imo... not saying t56 is the only way to go.. but for whatever setup you do ... it could be.. plus the t56 is way stronger and especially if you beef em up .. and you can change the gear ratios internally. but its whatever you plan on doing man...

I'm definitely not saying DON'T do it. Just do your homework, figure out what's needed to make it fit, make sure it's in your budget (I got my 5-speed donor car for dirt cheap) and realize that if you're doing it on your own and have never done it before, it's not going to be a one-afternoon ordeal. If you do go ahead and go wit this project, I wish you all the best of luck and let us know how it turns out. I always like seeing people's fresh ideas of what to do with their cars!
