from people I kno who own them said there alright for beaters, but turds the stock n/a basemodel auto will be a slug its abot 80hp and cant move out of its own way, they have alot of problems and $ to maintaine and rust issues on that year, so from my friends mouth and my NO! get a honda or a toyota something thats 4 cylinder small cheap good on gas

well, the car is from florida and is 100% rust free, and I'd be trading a suzuki samurai for it if I got it. but I am still kinda undecided. It seems like most people motor swap for a better/bigger rotary anyways, so why no get a clean one. but I really dont know yet

samurais are sweet!! dont get rid of that thing.

honestly though, idk if this just goes for modded rotary's or stock as well but they need to be rebuilt quite often. i think the apex seals go out pretty frequently. don't quote me on that though.

I have an '83 RX-7 GS as my DD. It has 200k miles and still going strong. The rotary motor itself is reliable as hell and damn near indestructible. The only thing you need to look out for when looking for one as a DD is if it has any leaks coming from the apex seals.

Also, I highly recommend against getting the turbo'd RX-7's. As much as it is a more fun car to drive the reliability of the motor dramatically decreases. And personally, I like the first gen RX-7's, they're tiny, lightweight, but, even me who is 6'6" can fit in one with no problem and enjoy the drive.

$1100 for this bad boy and the only thing wrong is the paint. The interior is better than my 1998 mustang haha

based upon those two pictures alone, I would not buy that car. The owner obviously does not take care of it and even if it is going to be a beater, you still want the car to be taken care of to ensure the car has a lot more life in it.

All the dust in-car was the first thing that tipped me off. Who doesn't have the time to make the car look good for a sale? As well as that, just the general fact of the car not being used for awhile (according to the second picture), the icicles on the car, etc. just would not make me feel comfortable buying that car. It takes $100 at the most to buy a car cover....

Granted my seven, has 200k miles on it, the owner before was extremely knowledgeable of rotaries and kept the car in excellent condition. Hell, my rx-7 can give my v6 a run for it's money from a roll haha.

EDIT: Just noticed it has a slush-o-matic. That's even more fail in an RX-7. Stick shift or nothing with these cars because they are so easy to drive.

Ah gotcha. How much is the samurai worth? That RX-7 he's selling doesn't look like its worth more than $2k. Go look at it in person and see how it looks. I'd just be weary of the fact that the RX7 is carbureted and it may not like cold weather, that's the only quirk about the RX-7's is the carbureted system that if not worked correctly under a cold start will delay you in leaving where ever you have to go.

well you misunderstood my want/need for a rx7. I am mearly trying to look at my options on trading and I definatly wound not trade my mustang. but the way its sounding, I might as well keep the sammy. because- n/a rotary +automatic = slow as balls and rotarys are unreliable. cool, and I am sure that an 88 is fuel injected, my buddies 87 is

nah I thought I saw two mustangs in your sig, but now I realize you're wiling to trade a datsun for one haha.

Well, honestly that rotary you're looking at is not a viable choice to pick in itself for a DD. It just doesn't look well taken care of.

N/A + stick + 79-85 (First Gen) = An assload of fun to drive. I take mine to auto-x every once in awhile and love the fact that I can out handle the 50 year olds who think their vettes are hot shit. The first gens only weigh about 2000lbs and the 13B motors have 135hp. When my mustang was stock my RX-7 could definitely outrun my v6 haha. 16 second 1/4 with the RX-7. 17 with mustang (stock).

Rotaries are extremely reliable N/A. I don't know where you got that information.

Proof that even a retard cannot blow up a Rotary. The exhaust goes up in flames because of heat but the engine does not blow.

And yeah, I'm only knowledgeable about 79-85 rx-7's, after that the car got heavier and too many computer systems for my liking haha.

Gotcha, honestly you'd be making out on that trade, I think. 2nd Gen RX-7's are normally worth around $3k. You clean that car up you can probably sell it for that much.

yeah definitely, the only show stopper for me is the auto. I would have to look at the car in person to really make a final assessment of it's not well taken care of.
