I know there's probably 100 threads on here about this topic, but I dont have the time or patience to go through all that trouble. I have a simple question with a simple answer. Will a 90mm lightning mass air meter work on my '94 GT? What do I need to make it work if it does?

good question...look up C and L meters if you really are looking to get one.
They sell matched kits for the 5.0's..

IIRC the 5.o's benifit a good bit from that mod...4.6/5.4 not so much

First question(stupid question) wtf is IIRC?
I saw one on ebay for $30 and Im upgrading my mass air when I put my gt40 setup on it along with a 70mm throttle body and injectors. I jsut didnt know if it was plug and go or if I need an adapter since the lightning was a mod-motor.

IIRC = if i remember correctly :p

Let me see about the lightning vs everything else. Im actually doing the same research for a friend..I got him a explorer GT40 intake for Christmas and we're trying to figure out what else we need to get the best power out of it.

So lemme do a lil more looking around, however I believe it SHOULD work ok. I still want to double check or hope Paul or someone else with a lot of knowledge will hop in here lol

Thanks man, if you find out any more about that explorer intake and stuff lemme know. I'm doing a gt40 head/explorer intake/tfs1 cam kit along with the other little stuff.

http://allfordmustangs.com/forums/94-95-tech/44171-lightning-mass-air-adapted-1995-mustang-gt.html

so short answer is it will work but you need an adapter or need to rewire some stuff...I know you can find 94-95 specific MAF sensors so that might be a little easier.

Only thing I'm workin on for the Explorer intake is finding a suitable intake adapter for the intake to cold air intake/throttle body. I dont know if the Professional Products/Edlebrock will work with the gt 40 or not.

Otherwise its prettymuch a bolt on and go deal.

EDIT: like this - http://www.americanmuscle.com/sct-2901-maf-adaptercable.html that looks similar to the OBDII maf sensor input so one would assume it would work for adapting and 96+ OBDII maf to the 94-95 OBDI harness

I wanna say any elbows will work for the explorer intake(or at least I hope soo).
The only reason I wanna stick with the lightining mass air is because of the price, Im on a super tight budget, Im probably not gunna have more than $400-$450 to do this h/c/i & supporting mods. So if I can get a 90mm mass air for less than $100 Im gunna pull for that one.

I hear ya man. Yeah hit up American Muscle and make sure that the adapter will work and you'll be set :)

Yeah they'll work but you need a tune and you either need the wire adapter or to cut/splice your MAF wiring harness to use the new style connector. Also keep in mind the 90mm MAF uses 4" couplers.

I have a MAC cai right now, I cant find out what size the piping is for that though. Would that adapter from american muscle work(post #5)? And just any tune from like a dyno shop?

Yeah any shop w/a dyno should be able to set your A/F ratio and check everything out...not to mention get a good bit more power out of the set-up

yeah just note you'll have to drive there before you install the LMAF. The mac style intakes ive had are 3.5" piping, which is the same size as 90mm, however the LMAF uses 4" coupler. The wiring harness is something like this unless you want to cut your stock one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ford-Lightning-Cobra-Mass-Air-MAF-Adapter-Harness_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem3a54ee8dfeQQitemZ250533023230QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

I got my 3.5" to 4" couplers at siliconeintakes.com, then i used something like this on the other side: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/90mm-Lightning-MAF-Air-Filter-Adapter-Flanged-Flange-4_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem53d7ab5751QQitemZ360100616017QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories
