Stock speaker size will depend on whether or not you have the mach 460 system. Stock is 5x7 front and rear I believe where as the mach 460 has 5x7 woofers in the doors and tweeters by the mirrors and a 6.5 and tweeter in the back next to the seat

Thought they were 6x8's no? Thought most Ford's were lol... But anyways.. You've got a vert man. From my experiences not much sounds good in a vert. I had 2 15's in my old Camaro and dude they sounded like shit haha. But I recommend trying a set of good speakers and get a good amp and go from there. Unless your just looking for something minor, then just get a good set of speakers and a good head unit with some decent RMS output!

Technically 5x7 and 6x8 are the same size speaker. They are marketed as as both. It doesn't sound like you have the mach system so your sound will be a lottle lacking. You will good head unit but you will probably want an amp if you plan on running more than 11-22 watts rms to each speaker. Verts are hard to get any descent bass response since most of your sound will escape as soon as your top is down.

I have a sony xplode head unit in the car now. I am just going to use that. what speakers should I get for the stock replacements.. what wattage should they be and what rms,and should they be 2way or 3way etc. I want something that is going to sound good and have a little bump to it I want to hook up a small amp to maybe a 100-200w amp what do you guys recommend

Everyone has their own preference on speakers. I like Infinity kappas but you may like the sound of pioneers better. I would recommend hitting up a few local audio shops and listen to a few different brands so you can make a choice. as far as wattage goes most aftermarket 5x7 or 6x8 will have 150 peak and around 40 rms. That should be fine for what you are wanting to do. The infinitys I'm running are 300 peak but you will never need that unless you are running an amp to them. An amp will give you better bass response from aftermarket speakers.

4-way 400 watt 5 x 7's I would have to say is probably a little more $$$/bling then sound. A good 2-3 way speaker is plenty.

+1 Ttocs knows his stuff when it comes to stereos and installation..... 4 ways are overrated in most cases. Even top audio companies like JL and Focal usually only make 2 way or 3 way speakers. 400 watts will be more than enough for it to get really loud (probably going to have to keep the gain low on the amp). The fact that your rear speakers arent in any kind of inclosure is going to kill your bass. You will be relying mostly on your door speakers for the lower frequencies. Another option would be to pick up the mach 460 rear enclosures and run 6.5" components but that will cost more. And I really dont know it the sound difference would justify spending the extra $100 to get them. Also Dynomatt behind the speakers in the rear and the inside of the doors will help a little.
