94 GT Getting Pretty Hot

So, I have had my car on the road for a couple months now, and I don't remember it always getting this hot, but it has always been on the warmer side. Because of that, me and a buddy of mine swapped the thermostat for a 180* which he said would help relieve the heat. My question is, what could be making it overheat? It has plenty of coolant in the system, and I don't think that I have ever noticed it leaking coolant, so what could be causing it to not stay cool? It seems to hang around the L in NORMAL which maybe is alright, and I'm just over reacting?

No that is running pretty warm.

You changed the thermostat, did you change anything else? Has the car overheated at all or just running really warm?

Just running really warm, not overheating. I changed the coolant temperature sensor. The one to the computer, not the one to the gauge. I can tell that it is getting pretty hot, because it is so warm that my legs get hot when I drive for a while just from being in the foot well. I don't know if it's on the passenger side as well, but that was my main heads up that it was getting way too hot.

I didn't think you were mocking me, any suggestions are more than welcome. :thumb:

I do remember my dad making me listen for the fan to turn on, which is why I didn't really give it a second thought. That was a few months ago though. I'll have to go check it out again.

Maybe you got a bum thermostat? I had the paper gasket blow out on the water neck and just replaced it a couple of weeks ago. When I replaced the gasket I got the bright idea to put some RTV on the gasket and I ended up putting to much on and it squeezed out and stuck the thermostat shut and almost closed the bypass off. Anyway what I'm getting at is did you put any kind of sealer on the gasket or anything like that. You might also try flushing the radiator. What did the coolant look like when you changed the thermostat?

yeah man check your plug that goes into your coolant resevoir, the yellow plastic thing, mine was doing the same thing and it was actually that, which was slightly disconnected and causing my fan not to turn on. just check all of your wiring and if your fan isnt turning on, that is it. since you changed your thermo already i wouldnt place money on that being the issue, unless you scored some ultra bad luck and got a faulty one. My suggestion check your wiring and the fan is the most important tell tale sign. good luck

Check the fan connector...take it out and look at it. If its scorched at all, you have a problem.

And if its not scorched you may still have a problem with the fan, but not with the connector....its the entire thing that may need replacing. It might be turning on, but that doesn't mean its spinning fast enough to properly cool the motor.

Its been pretty hot here the last few days and my cobra is starting to push the guage up a little bit too. I'm gonna try swapping out the fan motor...I'll let you guys know how it goes.

I dont know how hot it gets where you live but here in AZ it can get pretty warm. To be honest, one of the best things ive done is installed an aftermarket Rad. I got a Mishimoto and I love the damn thing. Granted im mostly stock but it works great!

my car just had the same problem this weekend..., it actually got soo hot that once i shut it off it wouldnt start back up again... the computer shut it down...
i narrowed the problem down to my fan, so i wired up a manual fan switch and now its running perfect.
