so i dropped the tank and i just ordered a 255 pump, since i have it out figured i mind as well up grade. should there be a line coming off the return opposed to this red valve? or should there be a line connected to this nipple in the bottom of the tank? i can order some corrugated line and make the return longer. i just dont want to shoot myself in the foot and do something wrong and have to drop this tank again

The red valve is to help break up the fuel stream so it doesn’t spray right down on the fuel that needs to be sucked up into the pump. That’s how the return is designed.

i understand that. but i see on say the aeromotive pumps they have a line coming off of the return with that red valve, im assuming to relocate the return stream. also im still wondering what the tube with the nipple in the bottom of the tank is for

do not add any extra line, put it back the way it was and I bet it fixes your problem
so in the picture of the whole hat is how the pump came out of the car. i pulled this pump to see if there was something noticeable causing my pressure drop. im not putting this pump back in my tank since there is nothing noticeable, and this was a new pump. im just curious if it would be beneficial to add a line on the return to redirect the spray from directly over the pickup.

I’m not sure about the one in the bottom of the tank.

You can add a piece of line to the return to redirect it, a lot of the f250 guys do it with their setups. It just makes installing the assembly a little more difficult. I do not think you’d see any benefit from doing it though.

So as to the fuel pressure dropping and the car breaking up. The problem has cleared up with a new 255 pump. Idk if the pump I replaced was bad or just could t keep up. But the car has cleared up and is running good. Holding 39-40psi on the rail at idle and hits 5-0 no problem when I get on it. Thanks to everyone who gave some input during my process. Now I’ll be moving on to addressing the oil burning issue lol

Great to hear you got your fuel problem sorted out!

Now for sticking rings… I’ve seen some old timers do some stuff I would not do to anything I owned. The best one has to be pouring transmission fluid into a running engine whilst holding the throttle open

ATF in the oil for a sticky lifter and water down the carb to get carbon out. Oatmeal in the radiator for leaks. STP to cut down on smoking. Sugar in the gas tank, never mind.

The water in the carb trick is pretty neat. Probably wouldn’t work too well in a modern car though. Seafoam works pretty well.

i pulled the plugs last night and filled the cylinders with some acdelco x66p. i let it sit over night, im hoping it washed all the build up off the rings. ill find out later tonight when i put it all back together. have to flush the oil first. ive been exploring some forged internals incase this doesnt work. thats going to be a whole new post since im not sure what dome i should be going with
