Okay so my 94' 3.8L is no good, it
was no good when I bought it. I want
to put a 96-98 3.8L into my car. I am
gonna use a 4R70W transmission but I
want to know what mods I'll have to do
if I use the newer 3.8L.

Please help. All replies are greatly
appreciated!!

I'm not sure you'll have to do anything?
Maybe I'm unaware of some small changes. Split port didn't come til 99, so it believe its the same motor.

But why not swap in a 4.2 if you're going to go through the trouble of putting a v6 back in? Doesn't need a ton of mods and you'll get more power. You'll also upgrade to split port.

I'd love to drop a 4.2 in but I'm a little strapped for cash (College is robbing me LOL). I was gonna do a 5.0 swap
but at this point, I just wanna get the '94 running. I can't keep driving my '79 Camaro as my daily driver, it sucks on gas lol!

The maro is and has been my daily driver for 5 years. I bought this 94 for $800 in hopes of getting it running for my daily driver.

If memory serves me right, 94,95 years have different valve covers other than that no difference. The 1998 model has a different fuel system than the rest, as well as the Ecu an PCM. The don't get a California car. I have one and hate that I do. I have 2 egr valves and some other vacuum hoses I do not need. I can put long tube headers on with out modifying some other stuff and the headers are different. From the other years.

the fuel system on a 98 are completely different than the 94-97. aside from the fuel and the valve covers. u should be able to drop it right in. You should not have to change the valve covers either. but the headers should be swapped over from your motor and not 100% sure on the fuel rails thought.

the 1998 year has a returnless style system but looks like the 94-97 system. but if you have to swap the fuel rails, it should not be a tough job

BDarby, you're going to have to switch the cam position sensor and housing. They send a different signal for 94-95 and 96-98.

I have a 97 3.8 that ran like a top when I pulled it if you're interested. I'm about an hour away from you in Summerville Sc

When i blew my 95 v6 i swapped in a 99..very easy.
had to make a fuel rail and swap all sensors to the 99. Used the 95 harness and ecu. I also swapped on the 95 headers..better design then the 99.
You can get a tune to make the most of it but if you dont it will run just mot full potential. 99-00 did mot have the imrc so one less thing t worry about.
cheapest way to pick up 40-50 hp in my book.
