99-04 cup holders

im already sick of having this cup holder that u have to lift up the center console to get to it, how hard would it be to install the 99-04 center piece?

its same shape, and I've had my center console out before and its no big deal to take out. take maybe an hour to do, but the center console is around $100.

they are the same as far as I know, center console comes out real easy and its a nice swap if you 1. don't smoke and 2. have a passenger. Why we only get one cupholder stock idk. Consoles are a little hard to get a hold of if you are looking for a black one for under $100 though.

I'm thinking about going this route too because the cupholder in our cars is worthless IMO. I think CJ Pony Parts has one but I can't remember the price right off the top of my head...

The 98-04 cup holder are even more useless.... no drink can fit inside it and it pretty much only good to hold a cellphone.

This is exactly what i do.... i actually removed the passenger seat belt buckle and the my drink get put between the seat and the center console :hammer:

dont waste your time and money

i went from the ash tray to the cup holders et up and cant fit any cups on there and the ones that fit dont allow you to shift to 2nd or 4th :wall:

My 98 Cupholds have never held a cup because with a Short throw shifter you cant shift from 3rd to 4th without spilling the cup.

You should be drinking in your car anyways.... thats why german cars didnt come with cupholders till the mid 90's

I'm thinking about doing the swap to the 99 console, the cup holders are definitely WAY better than the thing that pulls out of our console, that thing's a POS. Only thing is you have to paint the new one to match the black interior, but I guess it comes out great with the right interior paint.

May I suggest the 01 (maybe 00) and up style. THe 99 just have cupholders where the ashtray is, and you still have the same problem with the shifter. I bumped up to an 01 myself.

Yeah dude you're right, my mistake. Must be the '01+. I know the '98s had that stupid thing in the ashtray but didnt know that carried over to the new style. the 01+ is what i want, plus if you need to you can fit a huge cup in that rear one with the rubber removed...
