So I will probably be getting my car tuned next week and I have not put my gears in yet. Can I get it tuned and then put the gears in after or would that just throw the tune off? I am assuming it would with the auto transmission but I wanted to make sure first.

How safe is it to tune a freshly built motor? Everything internal is brand new and I was told not to drive it so I cant really break it in. Should I at least put some 93 in it and let it idle for a really long time?

Thanks for any help in advance.

why did they say not to drive it? You should drive it to get everything broken in. When i get done building a motor (5.0s) i always just drive casually for about 100-150 miles then after that i drive it like i plan on driving it in the future so its used to the driving habits cause if something is going to break it will break then. I never had a problem with that way..

I always run 93 in my car, that is what my tune is setup for..

I think you should throw your gears in before the tune.

Definitely break in the motor before the dyno, not only will it make more power after it's broken in but it's not a great idea to run a fresh motor flat out.

Yea i guess I will just be really easy on it for awhile. Maybe he just meant don't drive it to there shop since I am in Tennessee and they are in Atlanta. I can see where that would probably be a bad idea.

Well it depends on whats done to the car as to if you should drive it without a tune. Is it a stock motor? According to your sig i see mph custom cams. Are they the ones telling you not to drive the car without a tune? If so then I would probably listen to them based on the experience they have with mod motors, and on their custom cams. They might be able to get you a mail order tune that is at least close so you can get the car to them, and then fine tune it. Just some thoughts. Then again you might be fine to drive it if your easy on it. Guess its how much of a risk you want to take. Now the 5.0 cars you can get by dropping a motor in with mods and driving it around.

as your breaking it in change the oil a couple of times to make sure you dont have any metal in the motor :thumb:

well I would say do gears last actually after the dyno. My reasoning is that you can see exactly where your powerband is and which gears will be most effective for your. But really 3.73's and 4.10's will do you good.

That sounds like a good idea I will probably do that. Yea I will definitely put a few hundred miles on the motor and change the oil right before the tune
