The bleed procedure for a rack is pretty easy and there's tons of youtube vids on it. Just make sure it's not spongey feeling before you actually interact with traffic.

There should be a visible part number on the boot and Ford should be able to sell them to you. Failing that, an online site like Tasca ought to have them. Cause if not, now I'm worried. Just make sure you buy only a Ford boot that is either the same p/n as the original or is a direct replacement for that p/n because everyone I've ever seen use a 'universal boot' has always cursed themselves for using them. They WILL leak.

I did have a junkyard rack I bought and sent to TurnOne for refurb since it was an 03/04 Cobra unit. That's another option in case you suspect anything's bad or a job is over your head.

I botched a boot on the R&P when we redid the front suspension. Replaced it and I really don't think the rack is what's leaking. Pretty confident it's the pump. Will update when I know more.

Confirmed the ABS sensors were cut out of the front. Still there in the back though. Upull it is!

Had an ebay seller tell me that the 95-97 ABS sensors in the front are the same. Is this true?

Most likely true. Somewhere around 98.5 (or maybe it was New Edge 99+) they went to 4-channel ABS where as the earlier SN95 cars with ABS were 3-channel (2 front brakelines and 1 rear brakeline, but with 4 ABS sensors). It's possible the re-design also included different sensors.

I can't be 100% because the only SN95 I ever owned is the one I have now.

you might need to pull the inner fender liner out to find it. Follow the large wire harness that makes its way around the engine and it could be tucked/tied up to it.
In case anyone searches for an answer on this - ^^ This was correct! I was too dense to think about it and that's right where the connector was.

So back to the rack and pinion... I degreased it really well a couple weeks back and can now see that a lot of the fittings around the metal lines are leaking a bit. Also, while doing the coil-over kit from MM today, I busted one of the boots. :( Any tips on where to get either an OEM boot or a decent rack? I looked at LMR. They don't have one for a '96. Are all SN95 racks the same? I don't mind spending more for something good - I just don't want to botch a rack.. Also, would I be better off to try and replace the boot and seals with a new seal kit and call it a day? Lastly, any tricks to bleeding a rack and pinion, or does that not need to be done since there's a return line?

Thank you!
The issue was the oil filter housing. Took it off, cleaned it up, and perfect ever since! Bought an aftermarket boot and used the OEM clamp to seal it. No issues since.

Update - no one advertises 1996 sensors and everyone says they’re out of stock. None at junk yards around me, none on eBay. Finally took a chance based off some eBay seller telling me 1997 sensors are fine. They were right. Plugged them in, routed wires, and abs lights are off and the kid has his cruise control for the first time!

The originals....they have any metal shavings stuck to them? Browned with rust?

Save them, clean them. Might even be that simple.
