I have been wanting to do this for a while now, finally had an excuse to drop the gas tank so I did it...painted the cover & polished up the straps.

I like it, looks clean. I want to do this with mine, anyone know the best way to get the undercoat off my gas tank cover? (not to hijack)

Using gasoline as a solvent is seriously dangerous and dumb. Gasoline fumes will ignite like nobody's business. Ask my friend who got 3rd degree burns on his calves, knees, and thighs, and was hospitalized for a good long stint from it.

The difference in what? My straps were all black before ... the cover had years of road grime, now everything is all freshly polished & shiny & will stay that way. It took a lot of effort to get the metal straps bright again.

Yes thorco said in no time at all the straps went back to being oxidized, but it looks good for now.

Paul, can't agree with you more.

Acetone (also very volatile) would probably help, or a stripper. I don't know if the cover can handle methaleyne chloride but I guarantee it would strip it off lol

I would do that, but mine will be dirty in a week. So I'll for go it. Your tail pipes are misaligned like mine. Do you by any chance have magnapacks?

Jrad...yes I have Magnapacks! LOL, is this a common issue? As soon as I get the time I will stop by my local custom exhaust shop & see if he can set them up better. Really bugs me...

Not nitpickin'Vermilion...just retired & having fun with a neat car...if I can make it just a little bit better why not? I like to sit in the garage & look at it when it's raining & I notice little things like misaligned tips..beside that kinda thing is budget friendly to fix! It is the details that make a knockout car...I have a long way to go but the journey is fun! (and it is not my DD)

My magnapacks do the same thing, lol. I guess it is a common issue. I got a shop to align it and now they are crooked again (my fault really). While I was changing my O2 sensor my strong strapping arms moved the pipe again. It was bad with my stock mid pipe and worse with my slp mid pipe.
