SOB someone cut into my vinyl top and stole my Clarion deck this morning. I'm so freakin pissed. I'm glad they didn't take anything else or cause unecessary damage. I have limo tints so whoever did it knew what was in my car. 180$ sunglasses are still there as well as other valuables. I got a shoe print though and discovered they are nike rt1's.

Anyone ever experienced their top ruined like such?
What did you do about it? (as far as getting it fixed) Shops charge about 600-900 and i wonder if its too difficult to do it myself. I'm not a novice automobile mechanic but i never delt with convertible tops. If anyone could help and point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.

Dont you have insurance? If so let them pay for a whole new top and the stereo

Happened to mine years ago... cut the top right above the passenger seat, put an arm in, opened the door, stole my stereo.... insurance handled it.
Replacing a top is not a job for a "novice mechanic".

with as easy as it is to break into our cars I am suprised he bothered cutting the top. I am also suprised that with as easy as it is to break into our cars that there are still people with either no alarm, or worse yet think the stock alarm will protect anything.

If you don't let the insurance cover it I wouldn't recommend doing it on your own.

Should always remove the radio when not inside the car. And when you say OUR cars.. do you mean 94-98 mustangs? Or Mustang in general??

94-98 is super easy. I remember seeing a thing on 60 mins where they happened to use an SN for an example and showed how a thief with a 8" coat hanger could get into the car faster then the owner using the key.... The pin stands up just enough that a hanger with a U bent in the end can slide by the windown seal and grab the pin stickin up to pull it up.

I have full coverage on the car but i have a 1k deductible so no matter what amount of damage done to the vehicle I pay 1k out of pocket. Also the stereo I had didn't have a removable faceplate....it was a DVD style head unit...now im going with the removable face plate kind. anyone recomment one that works well with the Mach 460 system?

I wouldn't replace the top myself...those can be a real nightmare.

That sucks... get an alarm there dirty cheap and nice to have (had mine put in for $100) Every 4th of july i get scared my top is gonna catch on fire lol thats about the only fear i have.. My alarm goes on 30 seconds after i turn the car off automaticly so i sleep good at night

i have an alarm but didn't go off. there was only shock sensors not motion sensors...so it only detects the bumps or smashes. whoever did it knew what was in and around my car. got on top of the convertible top and laid of the frame, cut the hole into the top and slipped the arms inside and toook the stereo and was gone.

alarms only come with shock sensors, you can add RF motion sensors for convertables and should but they are extra and not all that cheap. I had one on my truck and liked it because I could leave the windows open. At the very least look into a mini-siren called either a piezo siren or otherwise called an interior pain generator. My friends use to like to mess with me but still couldn't stand to be in the car for more then a couple of the warn away chirps that it put out, not even full blast on. Someone has your number know and knows his way around your car, time to upgrade the alarm....

I went with a removable face unit as soon as I bought a vert. I also have a dual zone movement sensor that lets me know when someone gets uber close to it.

What brand are the sensors? I have a Clifford Matrix X1 alarm system w/ a 2-way remote. I Am getting the motion sensors as soon as I fix my top and replace the stereo (insurance covered it)

Sorry about the theft & damage.

I just put a kenwood in mine and it sounds better with the Mach system than it ever did before.
I've had a clarion and pioneer head unit prior.

You should not try to do the top yourself. You can get the top from mustangs unlimited. If you don't have the replace the rear section with the window, you can get the top for less than $160.00.

I have an Alpine alarm and honestly I don't know if they used their own or add ons from like DEI etc. Its been in my car for 15 years and I don't think they even have alarms anymore.
