When I put my solid steering shaft in my car the factory rubber bushing in the firewall popped out and never would stay in. Tried to fix it recently and couldn't get it to stay in. Not to mention the rubber was a little deteriorated and the bearing was in bad shape. So I started looking on the Internet for a replacement and came across this:

This guy used a factory Ford bushing assembly for an S197 car. All of the dimensions and mounting holes are the same and the newer one has a little better design. I got my friend at the Ford dealer to order one for me, $40 at their cost.

In this pic you can see the difference in the newer design. The rubber bushing can't separate from the housing like the older ones.

Won't be able to install mine until after my firewall gets painted but figured I'd go ahead and share this with everyone. Since they're the same for 05-14 any Ford dealer should be able to get one.

Looks a little bigger in the pics but it's literally the same size as the old one. The newer one just has a foam gasket attached to it where it'll sit on the firewall. If you look at the firewall of our cars, there's a round flange protruding out that the bushing rests against. On the new bushing that flange is incorporated into the whole assembly, so that the bushing is contained and can't come out of the assembly. You can see what I'm talking about if you look closely at the picture of the new bushing.

As for the MM shaft, basically when I tried to install mine thru the firewall it was a tight fit and being that my bushing was worn out it popped out of the firewall and was just dangling inside the car on the steering shaft. You could grab the steering shaft and move it up and down where it goes thru the firewall. Not to mention after looking at it the needle bearings inside the bushing looked like sh!t.

Sweet this is something I have to keep in mind. I googled the part # 7R3Z-3C611-A and found a few sites with this bushing for around 30 bones. Not bad!

That's less than what I paid so not bad at all. I only checked at O'Reilly's here to see if they could get one and they could not so I just went straight to Ford after that.
