Hey everyone

I'm having a really strange issue with my T-5. For some reason past about 30 MPH it will make a weird whirling type of noise in every gear, but only on throttle and about half a second off the throttle (while still in gear, of course.).

The transmission shifts totally fine, I can romp it and powershift 1st through 3rd no problems with no grinds. The only issue i have this annoying sound it makes.

I know my TOB is messed up because it makes the squeaking noise when i release the clutch but i dont think it has anything to do with the crazy whirling/whining noise. The only sound I can relate it to so you guys get a better idea is that of a bad gear install in the rear end, but it's very obvious that the sound isn't coming from the rear end.

Please help!! This thing is driving me insane!! :violent1:

Sounds like it might be a Pilot Bearing.

Wow i'd be the happiest person alive if its just a 10 dollar pilot bearing or a simple fluid change lol

What type of fluid should I use? If i'm not mistaken these transmission take dexron 3, correct? Or should i go with Royal Purple?

Yeah but the only crappy thing about being a Pilot bearing is everything has to come out. You could do a Royal Purple or a FMF ( Ford Motorcraft Fluid).

id have to say u joint. these threads keep coming up and i already led one guy down the right path. seems to be common. i had a screaching noise and so did the other guy. put two new u joints on and prob was gone. but the same thing happened in my moms truck also, anywhere between 30mph and 40mph there would be a lot of shaking and some squeeking. thats my guess atleast, it'll save you tearing apart the transmission

Well these cars are starting to get old so i'd imagine a lot more of these threads will be coming up, especially for us 5.0 guys :tongue3:

The noise starts at about 30 and will continue past 70-75. I don't know if it disappears after that because to be honest I don't really go past 75-80. Even at those speeds the sound is still there.

I took my interior out to redo it and its extremely clear that it's coming from the front of the shifter area. Almost sounds like it's coming from the bellhousing area.

As long as I'm 100% sure that it isn't related to transmission internals then i can sleep well at night lol.

I'm gonna be changing out the clutch before the end of the month, during that process i'll be changing out the pilot bearing for good measure. While I'm at it should I get an aluminum driveshaft or is that just gonna cause more unwanted noise/vibration?

I had one on my old fox but it didn't seem to make any extra noise or vibration but i don't know how it would be on a 94-95? All i remember is that it was just a little difficult to drive around in a parking lot or traffic at 1000-1200 rpm on first gear. For some reason it caused the car to jerk if I didn't give it some gas.

Again, thanks for the input guys! :eek:ccasion14:

If you can afford it throw a AL driveshaft in there. It saves a good bit of rotational weight. It sounds like your pilot or To bearing. if you rest your foot on the clutch while driving does it go away??

The squealing noise from the throwout goes away if i rest my foot on it but the crazy whirling/howling/whining sound doesnt.

It's probably still your TO bearing if you push it in a little bit i bet that Whirring noise will quiet down and almost disappear.
