Not real sure the best forum for this but I'm going to be restoring an antique gas pump. It's a bennett 966, which dates back to the 1950s. My dad has restored quite a few over the years and gave me this one to restore a couple years back and I just never had time with school. I'm a little torn on the color scheme and brand/gas company for the restoration, but I've got a couple ideas rolling around.

Most people are probably familiar with texaco, sunoco, gulf, etc. but there are a lot of neat old pumps that have gone by the wayside like richfield, polly, esso, dino...

I'll try and regularly update just like a build thread if anybody cares to see any of the process. I'll post up pictures of what I'm starting with later today.

Going to paint it yourself too? Sounds like fun.

yeah, the frame will just be rattle canned no big deal there... the rest of the pump will be a little more involved so I imagine I will recruit the old man for some help, but yes I plan on painting it.

Somebody's playing peek-a-boo

haha, yeah, the ole car has been a little neglected lately. I'll get back around to it eventually too.

I recently decided to get into painting my own stuff and step up to a gun. Something like this could be a fun project.

that's really cool looking, interested to see how it comes out. what do you do with it when it's done?

that's a good question... since I don't have a place of my own, and don't feel like hauling it into an apartment it will sit somewhere in the garage... but one day it will look great in my own man cave, or in front of the garage, or in a game room, or who knows... I just want to restore it right now, hahaha

All of the trim, rubber gaskets, bennett id tag, etc has been removed. The doors are ready to be stripped... might just have them dipped locally, depends on how much it would cost. The next step for the frame is "clean-up". I'll probably just wire brush it and coat it semi-gloss black.

You can see some of the stainless trip pieces in the pic above, they are on the white towel by the porcelain face. All of the trim will need a little work, I'll take pictures of it once I get closer to working on those parts, no need right now, plenty of other work to be done.

After a good amount of pb-blaster and working the crank around got everything freed up... still need to pull this all out and clean up the numbers and all.

I think the color scheme right now is blue and yellow... little bit of white in places as well. In fact, now that I'm thinking about it, I might do the frame white.

I just realized my thread had moved. Thanks to whomever made the move for me, I wasn't sure of the best place to post this kinda thing or if anybody would care to check it out for that matter.

I'm doing a bit of an old school thing myself with a 68' C10 project me and my old man picked up. White walls, bagged, patina, red/white interior. I love old stuff. This is very cool. I'm jealous

I've always loved the look of the old pumps. Watching American Pickers has made me want to pick one up and try my skills on one too. Good luck with it. Im sure itll look tits when its done.
