i have a friend that works at beggs that can get me a pair of continental extreme contact 275/40zr/17's for 240 installed. thats $10 less then tire rack sells them. just wondering if anyone has run these and if they are any good. my current toyos 255/45zr/17's cant hold 2nd gear for crap and track time is comming soon so i want to be able to launch a bit.

drag radials would be awesome but i dont have the money for another set of rims and dr's plus my toyos are pretty shot.

another plus is these will pull almost 10mph more at the top of 4th.
anyone have first hand experience with theses tires?

How do you figure that? Your 255/45/17 are 22.7" diameter and the 275/40/17 are 22.4", that hardly equals 10MPH

They're actually 26" tires, but the 275 is shorter than the 255/45 which means it'll actually reduce your to speed slightly, but it's not enough to notice.

Is your car a daily driver? My Nitto DRs lasted quite a while.

i checked the book at beggs, said tire od was 25.8
my car will be a daily again next month. my current 255's only stand 24" tall
these 275's stand almost 26. hence almost 10mph at the top of 4th.

my 4th gear only pulls to 114mph before i run out of rpms, i want theses tires for looks as well.

lets do the math on tires....
275mm wide/.4 percent sidewall = 4.4 inches (one inch = 25mm roughly)
4.4iches x 2 + 17 = dun dun dun 25.8...

no, you're wrong.

255/45-17 is 26" tall, 275/40-17 is 25.7" tall. you're not gaining any mph, the 275/40 is a SHORTER tire.

oh snap i am wrong, but in the right way. i know my thoughts were right on going from a 24 to a 26 tall tire...

the problem with what i said earlier.
my 255's are 255/40zr/17...

so were both right, error on my side tho i'll give a big thumbs up to onyx for knowing what he's talkin about.

addtion, both of these tires are better then the 225/45's that came on my car.

onyx i bet you were thinkin gosh this guy is a f'in tard.

i actually thought maybe you were talking about 255/40 but i figured I'd run with it. 255/40s are 25" though not 24, so the difference isn't going to be that great still (25" to roughly 25.7"). whoever put 225/45s on the car was a moron, that would just look stupid.

the 225's were on 99 v6 wheels. so they fit well just looked weak. the way my 255's sit right now its at 24, i might be a lil low on air. but they are shot. they came on my wheels when i bought them so i ran with em. they look like freakin rubber bands tho and im tired of having nearly no sidewall and huge fender gaps.

ill put it this way, the 255's are so gone i can cherp 4th when its dry. when its wet the only gear that holds is 5th and i dont stress 5th at all ever its a rule of mine.

i will keep 255/40's up front, they run well and dont rub.

now back to my question, has anyone run these extreme contact tires before??

Well i'm pretty sure those Conti Extreme Contacts don't exactly last a long time either. The Nitto DRs can last 15k miles or so and they do just fine in the rain as long as they have some tread.

The Hankook Ventus K104 i had worked great. If your worried about traction in the wet then just get a set of BFG Gforce TA KDW
