auto trans question

so my dads 00 gt lost drive and overdrive today on his way home from work. dropped it off with a couple of my buddies at my old ford dealership i used to work at and im thinkin the worst(needs a new trans) so im thinkin of either a possible upgrade for it but i dont know. what do you guys think? we dont have a boat load of money and if he does end up needing a trans ill probably take it to my work to do it. what does everyone think? :BangHead:

If its a 4r70w they can be built pretty well and hold ALOT of power. If it is internal failure, im sure you can scoop one up from a yard for 600 and put that in plus fluid and a new filter and be good to go.

Search craigslist for a used auto, people are always taking them out for 5 speed swaps, you'll probably be able to find a good deal
