I have a 97 gt that Im jus replacing the 97 motor with a brand new 04 motor..Im jus doin a stock rebuild on the tranny since the last owner of the car let the tranny fluid run low and burned up the forward clutches..the guy that is doin the rebuild said something bout puttin a V6 torque converter in the tranny..cause it has a slightly higher stall speed..has anyone every heard of this..he is a very good transmission guy..I am jus making this a full bolt on car..didnt really want a high stall..does anyone know what the different stall speeds are for v8 & v6...thanks for any info..

I might be wrong but the v6 and v8 didn't use the same auto... might be wrong but IDK. Though, if you want to keep the auto you really need to invest in a stall for sure... only way to really feel the power in the auto :(

Im keepin the V8 tranny...he is puttin a V6 torque convertor due to the high stall speed than what comes in the V8...so I wont have to put in a stall...this will be a daily driver and a toy..also my wife will be driving it from time to time..Im not making it into a bracket racer or drag car...I want stock comfort with durability, so that I can get out and play too..thanks for the reply..

The V6 converter does not have a higher stall speed or k factor than the modular unit.

Get a new trans guy.

Alot of companies go ahead and market products for the 5.0's at the 4.6 guy's in the same boat, and the "tech" guy's don't know or care. Stock stall is 2400-2700 on a modular, I've posted the chart around here, I don't have it handy right now.

Modular converters are the highest factory stalls available for your transmission. ALthough back in the day swapping a Vega converter onto your Turbo 350 was a nice way to pick up a little stall.

At any rate, if you are going to believe him, and ignore me, then don't ask me or waste my time. You're paying him anyway, and since you trust him, don't second guess him. Have fun with your new trans.
