I been thinking Instead of doing a full pi swap, to get close to 300 hp, I was wondering how much power do boosted npi's tend to make?

I really want to go with a turbo, like a on3 performance. But I was actually just looking for what they do in general with all different types of boost.

My old setup was just PI manifold, SQ S trim, paxton intercooler, 3.12 pulley, power pipe, full bolt ons...and I put down 370/380 through a built AODE and 3500 stall

Hmm so what are some good bolt-ons that actually make a difference... not talkin about udps and tornado cold airs.

well, udps and cold air you couldnt do anyway because you would have to take them off with a centri setup.

By bolt ons i meant: Accufab throttle body/plenum, SLP longtubes, SLP offroad midpipe, catback

cant you run more boost with the NPI heads? since the compression will be wayy down? about how much boost can the stock internals on a NPI handle safely?

I was running about 13psi, but some will say thats pushing it. Just get a reliable tuner to do a custom dyno tune and you will be fine. And its not that the compression will be way down, its just that when you swap PI heads your compression goes up so running high boost on higher compression and stock internals is not a good combo.

So would it be a good idea to do a PI swap or not if I wanted to boost my way to 400? Or port some Npi heads. I will probably end up doing the pi intake swap.

honestly, if you have a manual i really dont think you will need to touch your heads. Like I said I was at 370rwhp/380 tq through an auto through stock non pi heads/stock non pi cams. if I was an auto thats right about 400rwhp.

modestly, 450 on stock internals is the margin til something goes wrong. however, tuned by a reputable tuner and the overall condition of your engine makes a difference.

after owning a nonPI at 13psi i wouldnt recommend it. i could barely pull a bolt on new edge, we were both autos, he had gears i didnt, but still, at 13psi i should have been around 325-350 (i say should), and his car i know makes under 260whp.

i would suggest going with the PI swap with quality bolt ons, after gears, then if you arent satisfied throw a bottle in the back and be done with it.

i put thousands in my boosted nonPI, and every time i stepped on the gas i was disappointed.

If you cant beat a bolt on PI motor with a correctly set up boosted non pi something is wrong with your motor. With my old setup the only PI cars that could hang were other boosted/juiced motors

oh no i beat him every time, but not by much at all ANYTIME. everytime was from a roll too, so that didnt help me.

what does "correctly setup boosted non pi" mean? tune was spot on, no belt slip, plenty of boost, bone stock motor, just no powerband....

i'm sure i had problems, but not with the motor, my converter was shot, and this was overheating the trans causing slippage, which wasnt helping, but i still dont recommend a nonPI boost build, unless you are easily satisfied. i could care less about dyno numbers either, track tells the tale, not a dyno operator. just my opinion though.

well considering all of your problems doesnt seem like a fair arguement. youre comparing your boosted non pi as barely beating pi bolt on motors and if thats the case than i would blame it more on your suspension, poor trans, wrong converter, etc. My setup would hang w/ my bros h/c/i ls1

completely stock block, stock internals, stock heads, stock cams:
Livernois PI manifold swap kit
SQ trim mongoose kit from MPH
4" power pipe
3.12 pulley
paxton front mount intercooler
vortech mini race
slp longtubes,slp xpipe, slp catback
70mm t/b & plenum
upgraded injectors,maf,pump
4.10s
completely built suspension
built AODE w/ 3500 stall

I think that about wraps it up
