I am pretty sure that the axle brackets for the calipers on the rear 8.8 between the GT and Cobra are different....

If this is true, then is there a way to measure them or part numbers stamped on them, that would help differentiate between them?

V6 and GT are the same, Cobra is longer to move the caliper out forthe larger Cobra rotor.. i have a set in my van that i can get a part # off of most likely. I know they are hard to get and expensive if not bought in a kit.

Heres the #
F4ZC-2C10X-BA

this if the Left side bracket.

Good luck finding them....they are on major backorder because of the fox body guys ordering the 5 lug upgrade with Cobra Brakes. My friend who is a tech at Ford waited 10 months for his.

thanks for the info!

Reason I ask, cuz a friend of mine has a freshly rebuilt 8.8 with 3.27 gears that supposedly came out of a 97 Cobra....I mean the 3.27 gears themselves can say YES it is out of a Cobra, but I just want to make sure the axle brackets ARE Cobra ones....

Now if they are, I can use the v6/GT caliper and caliper bracket and use a Cobra rotor for the rear brakes? or are the caliper brackets specific to a Cobra as well???

Thanks!

I think Cobra rotor is larger and is vented as well, which would make it wider than a stocker. The calipers are pretty much the same, so you can run your GT calipers but you will have to use thinner pads. You can solve the problem by buying cobra specific rear pads. I did some searching on Hawks, and found this.

This is a dimension sheet for both vented and non-vented brakes. The numbers in the top right corner represent the thickness of the pads in inches. Base/GT rear pads are .660 inch thick, while Cobra rear pads are .585 inch thick to clear the wider vented rotors.

They are probably using thinner pads all around. It would not affect the Base/GT car to run thinner pads, because the piston will just slide out more to compensate for the lack of thickness. I guess it's the way Raybestos keeps the cost down, by making one size fits all pad.
