bad steering rack?

When I jack up my driver side tire I have zero play when i wiggle it top and bottom. when I wiggle side to side I have a ton of play and the play runs right into the steering rack, it goes back and forth about 1/2 inch each way maybe 1 inch total. Would this mean I need a new rack or do I need to tighten something up? thanks

Usually the play is in the tie rods but I guess the rack could wear too.

yea i thought the same thing but i can follow the play right into the rack

are you sure the steering wheel isn't moving?

Do u you have longtubes and stock steering shaft? Had this issue with mine.stocj shaft has a slip fitting with a plastic bushings anf since the shaft goes thru the headers now,it has melted/shrunk whatevered that bushings causing lots of play.

yea i have long tubes but the shaft does not run threw the longtubes, the play is just in the drive side wheel the passenger one doesnt move

I had a buddy shake the wheel so I could really get a good look at where the play is at and it looks like i need a inner tie rod end....i am gonna look for a good how to on it!
