So I ran my 96 gt last night at new england dragway. Weather was ideal, temps dropping through the 50s/40s. The track was pretty decent I think - i cut several sub-2.2 60' times on my cheesy all-season eagle LS tires (best 2.17 by launching at 1500rpms).

Help me figure out if the car is running right? I think my ET is decent but traps seem a bit low to me.

The car is a 96 gt 5sp, almost 100% stock except for an ebay intake and a 93 octane sniper tune. Race weight w/me ~3450

Best run of the night:

60'...........2.26
330..........6.264
1/8th.......9.635 @ 73.27
1000........12.509
1/4..........14.959 @ 92.45

Was hoping for 94+ traps, car felt like it was dying off earlier than normal up top. It could be b/c I added a homemade heat shield to the air filter - could be choking off flow at higher rpms. Best shift points seemed to be right at or slightly higher than 5000 rpms. I tried winding 1st to 5600 and 2nd to 5300 but it led to a 15.1 :p

It could also be my stock 6 cats with 124000 miles - i'm sure they don't flow too well at this point - gotta fix that soon. Maybe before I put the PI intake on...

On a stranger note, i ran an almost identical time with my 225-lb friend in the car - I'm used to losing 2-3 tenths with a passenger :dunno:

Not bad time you got there for a stocker. IMO, I would swap out the x-pipe before the Intake unless you still have the all plastic NPI one on there just so you don't get stuck somewhere because it will crack - no ifs. PI parts will allow it rev much better and be in the power band longer.

you could but its probably a waste of money.

Just do the rtv method and save 300 bucks.

Thanks all for the feedback. I was just checking out the summit h-pipe for $135 - probably pull the trigger and install it within a couple weeks. I already have a PI manifold and the upgraded NPI manifold (so I can re-use the crossover). Probably wait until June for that project (limited budget and time, 2 kids will do that). I even have the PI cams already also, but again limited time means that'll have to wait until mid summer. I have a sniper tuner and a wideband (WB not yet installed). The plan is to keep it tuned close to 13:1 A/F after each mod and get as many track runs as possible to gauge my progress. I'm thinking just the H-pipe and re-tune should drop me a couple tenths if I'm lucky.

I believe the all PI plastic intake is one piece and can't move the aluminum crossover from the upgraded NPI. Other than that, you've got a nice and proven list of good mods there that should get your times significantly lower. Keep us up to date as you go!

A fast slip around 1500 - 2000 rpm got me about a second of wheelspin and 2.17 60' times on my all-seasons, I have 3.27s out back. This was my first time launching a rwd/manual trans in about 17 years, so I'm no expert. But its more fun than fwd that's for sure.

What state are you from? I go to New England Dragway as well. I plan on going this friday for street night. I have not gone for about a month between the rain and other things going on so I need to get back this friday, the weather is going to be great.

Nice times, I would LOVE to say my car runs a 14.9, but I Havent made it up to the track(2 hours away) to run my car yet. How much different should my times be with the 5.0L and 3.73s? Im still a newb at launching, thats why im leaving the tranny my brother beat to hell and back in it until I can race it good :).

You will pick up a few tenths with 3.73's. Its a great great gear to go with its what I have now as well. Id say you should be able to get in the 14's depending on your driving ability and your launch.
