Yeah I've had the same couple of Yellowtops for year's, but aparently they were bought by a bigger company who ramped up production, and ramped down quality.

The yellow top is supposed to be better if you have a lot of electronics in your car, huge stereo, disco lights, DVD players everywhere...

But I have to agree. I am very disappointed with my red top optima. I bought mine a year ago. My car is a weekend car and I don't take it out every week. If it sits for more than one week the battery dies. I could take it back for a pro-rate replacement but I don't have the time. I don't think I'll be buying another one.

Never had a problem with mine.

How long have you had yours? Like they said in other posts, the quality may have gone down. And if I drove my car everyday it would probably seem fine but one week of non-use and it dies...?

I have had mine over year. No problems. My car actually cranks better with it.

well who else makes performance batteries like optima???

There's one called the Odyssee that comes highly recomended from the guy's on my truck forum. Quite a few other options out there, including Napa and Walmart brands.

some of those batteries sit for along time before they are sold.

I bought a yellow top from Autozone a little over a year ago, and three months later it was done. I took it back with my receipt and the manager told me that he cold not replace the battery because the date on the battery indicated that it was close to 5 years old. I told him that its not my fault that they let it set on display in their store for so long and that they should replace it due to how recent i purchased it as well as the fact that I kept the receipt. He said he had no problem replacing the battery I purchased 3 months ago as long as I bring it in and it tests bad. I sorta just stood there thinking WTF..... and he said that the battery that was 5 years old was not the battery I purchased. I spoke with a representative at the corporate office about the situation and finally got my money back 6 months later.

my first red i bought like 8 years ago and it lasted 5 years of abuse...then my next 2 were only good for a year but both replaced under warranty and instead of another red i went with a yellow and paid the $20 difference and its working much better. I let my car sit for a week to 10 days all the time and it fires right up...the red tops would have to be jumped.
