I did a quick search, and I'm seeing a lot of recent negative opinions for an Optima battery, so does anyone have another brand to suggest?

I have red top Optima. No problems at all with this battery. Had it for over a year.

OK, I'll reconsider the Optimas. Which one? Any places that sell them below MSRP? I saw some on the shelf in Advance Auto but they were pretty $$.

i go buy rule. you get what you pay for. i use red top optimas in my explorer with stereo for over some time now and no problems. the stang has a crappy die hard. no problems but it isnt that old. other than. id go with red top optima. stereo systems should use yellow top for a deeper cycle and constantly depleting and replenishing.

I have an optima yellow top and I love it. I picked it up from my local O'Reilly's Auto Parts this summer and I have nothing bad to say about it.

Red Top Optima. You will have to make a battery hold down though. OR you can move it to the trunk.

I've had several Optimas and never had a problem with any of them, some of them are ten year's old (like the one in my Cobra). However I have heard that they were bought out by a bigger company recently, and quality has suffered, but I have no first hand experience of that myself.

If you don't have the cheddar for an Optima at the moment I have used DieHards for YEARS and never had problems with one yet.
Although since moving to the "heat belt" I have used Interstate Mega-Trons and they have held up nicely so far, although I did buy
a 6 year battery and I'm only two years in,but no probs yet.

optima yellow here. if you need the increased output that an optima red/yellow brings, then go w/ those. what's $80 when it comes to your stang? if you don't have the need, get an el-cheapo batt and spend your "cheddar" elsewhere. i wouldn't get these optimas to be "cool"... who cares, it's a battery. you know what i mean?

Money's not the issue, but a bargain price is a bargain price. Jegs seems to have them about $20 cheaper than the local Advance Auto, so I might order from them.

"Cool"? Hah! At 50 I left cool years ago. Now I'm..."seasoned". Or "weathered".

Thanks--John

When i switched to the red top optima, my car seemed to start easier. Could have also been that the battery in the car was the original one from 96 too.

Red top if you want a bomb battery

yellow top if you have 4 12's and a 4,000 watt amp....Yellow top has a VERY fast recovery time

Which red top? Their website make/model list didn't come up with anything for the '97...

Also, Don't forget to check at your local costco, They had red and yellow tops, 70 dollars cheaper then any auto store. I know it's costco on the west coast, and i beleive sam's club on the east.

I just went into the parts and grabbed a red top off the shelf and went out to my car and installed it.

I always used yellow tops, all mine are. They are very snug in the Mustang's battery blanky thing, and bow the box out a boit, but they go in there.
