Of course no matter how much you think you prepare a car how do you prep for this? YOU DONT.

Of course this was at my track weekend at summit point. I only got a part of one session in before the butterfly shaft broke, causing the butterfly to go WOT causing my engine to violently hit the rev limiter which then broke my water pump before i could get it into gear to stop the bouncing revs.

(That wrapping on my hand is from a burn i got last night. Nice to see my luck is carrying into the week)

I called BBK to ask for a new shaft and they said that they dont sell parts for the throttle body and I would have to buy a new one. Which makes no sense why you cant send me this simple little piece for a small fee might I mention I did not get a refund for my track weekend. I will be buying a new one but not from them

Yeah thank god for the screws staying in place. That would have costed me a $hit ton.

Track days with NASA are 320 at SP. And if you actually want to be able to stop you need track pads...another 320 and tires too. But thats not a total loss i still have the brakes and tires. So basicly i need to start some autocross (not with track pads though they wont get hot enough). It was fun for the 17 minutes i did get on the track for though over took 2 corvettes, one was a ZR1. So i was rather proud of myself.

You get what you pay for but parts can fail. Also you cant blame a company for not selling part of a part. Its not cost effective for them or the consumer to pay overhead to have 20 throttle bodies on the shelf and andother 20 pieces for the same throttle bodys. They arent are pretty cheap but glad to see it didnt hur the motor.

Duff that is true however if a company does not take care of a customer someone else will.

So im wondering how that even happens? So i can prevent this in the future. Is it just from mashing the throttle too hard, excessive heat, or just product failure? I dont have one thing with BBK's name on my car, and I have never seen a product fail like that.

glad your motor is ok, any pieces go down the IM?

it's lame that they wont stand behind the part, overhead for warranty is part of any reputable company's plan.
I like your henry ford quote :)

It just doesn't happen, Its for sure not from mashing the throttle the whole point of road racing is to be VERY smooth on the throttle especially in mustangs. this is definite product failure. An oem one sees more than 12x as much use. I also showed all the Camaro/Mustang Challenge and American Iron Racers. Most just went "what the f*ck" or "who made that sh*t" no one has ever seen anything like it.

I pulled the IM and it was clean. That screw was hanging on for dear life. :confused1: And I guess the moral of the story is dont buy bbk unless you get hard ons from wasting money and breaking motors.

I'll start off by saying I have no idea how BBK gets their throttle bodies. If they make them in house they have more flexibility on service parts because they make them. If they have them made they may not have any say on service parts. So if you need something they would have to disassemble a working TB for the guts leaving them with just the housing. Again, I'm not sure just playing Devils Advocate. I think you should definitely inquire about a warranty. How long have you had the throttle body?

It was on the car before I got it so I have no idea about a warranty. It cant have over 10k miles on it.

Luckily I learned this from watching my friends 99 GT have a similar issue on his DD. I wouldn't put a BBK product on my car if someone paid me. Glad it didn't cause catastrophic failure...

Someone else here had the exact same problem a year or two ago, and got a similar response from their customer service department. This is the main reason I opted for a different brand of long tubes/mid-pipe. In fact, I often steer friends/acquaintances away from BBK when they bring it up. Even if some products are quality made, it does not make up for the poor, poor customer service that will eventually bring them down.

Maybe you should send them a link to this thread!
