first off i take good care of my car, its always clean and almost always has a fresh coat of wax on it. but i guess the previous owner lacked that care and a few spots had popped up. initally i thought maybe they wont get worse wellll i was way wrong lol. theyre not bad but if i can tackle these and get them gone (or at least heavily covered) now, then i think it will be better than waiting.
now iv looked up many ways to repair, or hide rather the rust but i think my plan will work, i just need some input from you guys. ill tell you the plan for each spot after the pix.
autozone sells perfect match in a spray can that ive used in the past on my camaro and to my surprise they really do match very very well. ill use that since the spots arent very large, and the 2nd spot isnt noticeable from most angles.
first spot is my passenger side rear quarter directly above the tire
there are many tiny tiny tiny bubbles right there, as well as those 2 chips above them. now i stuck my finger back there and attempted to clean off the inner quarter but to my surprise there was no flaking rust or really dirt for that matter. the plan is to wire wheel (or the equivalent of) to scrape any crap or rust thats not there off the inner quarter, then shoot some undercoat over the whole inner quarter to seal it all up for good. and for the outside my plan was to sand it down (maybe use a grinder? a little skeptical on that...) then fill if i need to then use a primer for rust and then use the perfect match, clear it, and wet sand to a decent finish. i figure i can fix the chips at the same time and kill 2 birds with 1 stone.
any suggestions?
spot 2:
on the driverside roofline from the back window to just over the door. now if i had to guess.. id say those sail panels are bolted on from the inside and i would have to remove part of the interior to access those bolts? anyways, remove them, sand down the rust and flaked paint (looks like surface rust and it doesnt go down but maybe 3/8" at most from what i can see) then use the same method of using a rust type primer then perfect match, clear and wet sand.
i dont know when ill have the time or money to accomplish any of this but i really think i should get it done soon to prolong the life of my car. from the quick examinations of the body i believe thats all the rust so its fairly minor and i think easily fixable. what do you guys think?
