Better common Ford factory heads for my 94GT?

Hi all. I was hoping someone here was familiar enough with the typical Ford motors, to tell me if there is a better set of heads that I can find at some junkyard somewhere. Perhaps they put better heads on a factory lincoln mark 8 or something... who knows. I am pretty confident in my porting and polishing skills. So I would like to just go to a junkyard somewhere and pick up a better set of heads for my 94 GT. Then I'll port and polish them myself, and bolt on a few more cheap HP to my stang.

So are there any Ford factory heads that are better than the ones that came on my 94GT? That will fit my 94's 302, of course. And of course its also going to need to work with the stock intake and stuff.

I'm sure the cobra heads are going to be a little better, but I have my doubts that I'll find any that are separated from the engine. Even if I did, junkyards have a tendency to think that certain things are worth their weight in gold. I'm looking for something that was pretty common, like that old Explorer intake swap trick.

You can find GT40 heads on early 97 Explorers (same heads that came on the cobra's) or late 97-01 (I think) Explorers came with GT40P heads. Better performance then standard GT40 heads however require specific "P" headers.

Ford Racing and Mac both sell P specific headers (I've read Mac l/t also clear the spark plug), the spark plug angle on the P heads get in the way of the typical header tubes.
Also the P's would still make more power then gt40's due to the revised spark plug location (improved combustion). Also the gt40p's have 58cc's whilst gt40's have any were from 62.5 to 65.5cc (bit more compression power). If I remember right the exhaust valve on gt40p's are smaller yet more efficient then gt40's.
With these 3 advantages there are disadvantages to them, having to do with emissions. P's used an external egr (we use internal), missing the smog ports on the rear of the heads (not 100% they are all like that). Keep that in mind.

I just installed GT40p on my 95gt.No problems what so ever.I use the mac shortys for the p heads, stock pushrods worked fine, ford racing gasket set, crower 15511 cam and stock intake.I dident have the funds to dish out for a good intake yet so ill replace that later.Car lost a little low end tq.But it picked up big time above 3k.Took me 2 days to do the swap.Only thing i had to modify was the dipstick tube needed a lil bend.Oh and i deleted the smog pump as my P heads did not have the ports for the tube on back of head.

No i dident do any port work. The P heads intake ports matched the intake gaskets that come with the ford racing gasket set from summit.I bought the heads with comp cams behive valve springs already on them.I had my machine shop look at them took a little off to true them up a bit and he said everything else was like new just as the guy i bought them off of said they were. I paid $250 for the heads and my machine shop did this for me at no charge but we do lots of buisness with him so he hooked me up.Been drivin it to work all this week and its runing great. Before with the E7s the car use to stop pulling by 4500rpm or so.The P heads and crower cam pull straight on up to 5800 no problem.Very big diffrence in performance and i got about $1000 invested doin the heads cam and header install. The headers and cam were purchased new.If i would have purchased a use cam i could have saved a few hundered but its what i wanted and so far im happy with the results.
