Hello everybody, haven't posted on here in a while, but anyways. I have wanted to do an engine swap in my car since I got it last summer. I was very interested in a 5.4 2v swap since that engine seemed to be the most abundant and also the least expensive. Then while searching on the internet a week ago I found a guy parting out a navigator. I'm getting the engine minus the intake for like 500 bucks(!). Besides the intake manifold what is the hardest part of a 5.4 4v swap? Will my 96 gt wiring harness plug right in like my 4.6 or does the wiring harness need to be modified at all? I know the computer will need to be tuned for a 5.4l engine. Will it clear the brake booster? I have searched and searched and I can't find what I want. Looking for an exact list of parts needed/things to be modded. Thank you, any help is appreciated.

I also live 1/2 hr from SHM, so I will probably be going there for some things. Hopefully have better customer service going there in-person, from what I have read on some forums, they don't have the best rep. W/e I'll def give them a shot.

No No No No No. The 5.4 4V is completely different than the 2v setup for the 4.6 GT.
God I dont know where to start.

1) Look up what is required to make a 4V engine run correctly on a 2V...there are major differences. The harness is different, not to mention pieces & parts...like intake/cai/sensors/ECU-Computer-things

2) As far as the intake is concerned, hate to tell you, but your looking at at least either A-buying adapters for $200-$400 bucks, or an intake for ~$600+. no way arond it. 2v-4v parts are not compatible. The intake is stupid pricey, especially since you dont have one to begin with.

3) Minor relocation required for many parts. see dealer for details....ok not really a dealer but those heads are huge, and on top of the 5.4 being ~1.5 inches taller your going to have some clearance issues. Be ready with the drill and grinder.

4) Exhaust will need to be modded. Mid-pipe will need to be lengthened to work, headers wont work-2v to 4v headers are diffrent IIRC.

5) You'll need to get some better injectors and maybe a pump for the fuel system.

6) 8 bolt flywheel. Romeo has 6 bolts, all 5.4 are windsor blocks, thus use 8 bolt flywheels, or if your auto the felx-plate is different.

7) Dont quote me on it but i think the thing is going to interfere if you have a stock hood. i know the 2v w/adapter plates is tall, but I have the HPS intake and a cobra r hood so doesnt matter to me.

Just a warning...its expensive. I've gone all out on my 5.4 2V build and Im in it about $5000. With another grand or so left just to get the engine running between fuel/driveline mods i needed to support the GOBS of tourque these things make

Is it possible/feasable? Yes. And with minor mods i promise you you'll make 400WHP.
However if you wanted a plug and go deal the 2V 5.4 is the way to go (what im in the middle of building)

For all other question i would HIGHLY recomend going to www.mustangboards.comhttp://http://http:// and looking in the 4.6 threads an the first sticky, which is the thread that kind of started the whole 5.4swap to gegin with.

Good luck to you man.

All that being said, please dont get discouraged! Take it a bit at a time.
In the long run thats an awesome engine that can make great power N/A and absolutely stupid ammounts F/I.

Just post up if you have questions and I'll try to help as I can, or at least point you to someone who can

Thanks! I will be picking the engine up in one month. I will take lots of pictures of the whole process and post them up. I think I should be able to get it done for summer.

so all you need is a intake spacer forth the slack in the 4,6 intake or get a hps intake , and the rest is compatible from a 4.6 2v to the 5.4? I'm tinking of doing the swap next summer

Navigator engine is pretty challenging...

The first thing is, physically, it's absolutly huge. It barely fit's in the engine compartment.

Second, exhaust, not terribly hard, but you're going to be out about 200 bucks for some fab work there.

Third, as stated, the intake. You can do Aussie part's for an N/A intake with no adapter's, but you're going to be out over 1k before you even get it here, then the TB is on the wrong side of the car. OR you can do adapter plates and runn a 99-Cobra/Mach intake... Pricey.

Basically, it comes down to money's. The 5.4 4v swap is neither cheap nor easy. The 5.4 2v swap, somewhat easier and cheaper. Either way, I expect you to be into it for 2-3k before you're done, not including cost of the engine.

But it can be done, it's just going to tnickel and dime you to death.

Can anyone confirm the mods to the wiring harness to run a 5.4 4v would be the same mods needed to run a 4.6 4v, as I found a thread on that swap(4.6 2v-4.6 4v) with good info. I'm not worried too much about the swap. I've seen the 5.4 4v swaps, if they can get the engine in, I bet I can. I can fab the exhaust myself. I think I will go the adapter plate route, then buy a nice piece when the engine is rebuilt. I also have a few buddies that work at Ford dealerships so they can get stuff cheaper than I could. Thanks for the help.

For a 5.4 2v yes, and do yourself a favor and get the 5.4 HPS intake...the adapter plates were just meant as a band aid and your leaving around 30WHP on the table if you opt for the adapter plates. The 5.4 4V needs and intake. There isnt a spacer that will work.

for the intake just find a used gt500 lower and blower for the same price.....

You need the intercooler for underneath, the lower manifold, the correct timing cover and pulley...All part's not sold with a GT500 blower.

Yeah, it's definately easy to spend his money for it. Eff it, just go straight for a JATO rocket with flux capacitor.
